Driving through the flames of the San Diego wildfires

San Diego Wildfires Surround Carlsbad Homes

Hundreds of San Diego residents were forced to evacuate their homes on Wednesday, May 14, after several wildfires broke out across San Diego County. At least 30 homes were destroyed by the fires in Carlsbad, according to local media reports.

Carlsbad resident Jeb Durgin got a close look at the wildfire while driving through the Pacific coast city. Durgin described this footage as showing the "El Camino Real fire," the name of one of the main roads in Carlsbad very near the fire.

My thoughts and prayers are with the people living in area who are dealing with these terrible fires. I also pray for those men and women fighting the fires. No politics here, just sadness for them.

In other words, all you care about is people who think exactly like you. That's about as mature as a chickpea.

What a tragedy to such a beautiful area.

All the horrible comments here are disgusting and so hard to believe that humans can stoop to such a level of uncaring towards others tragedies.

I'm a native Californian (yes, we do exist). As bad as the fires are for the people affected, the media acts like they are unexpected. Hey, Southern California has fires EVERY YEAR! And has had for thousands of years. It's the nature of the beast.

Does AOL realize that this new format will encourage even shorter, dumber posts. Smart people will stop posting.

I have a feeling AOL understand's it. I'm sure you've read various comments on a variety of topics on AOL. Most comments are short, mean and ridiculous. Thoughtful, provocative comments (regardless of political stance) are neither wanted nor needed. That's how Fox News, Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck etc, continue to hold their attention. Those long, angry, mean, absurd rants are intended to hold these guys' attention. Since most of these pundits are "Dee-Jays" (not informed, educated political pundits), their primary goal is to cater to a target audience with short attention spans.

And the comments on the likes of Huff Post and others are not the same way? LOL! Take the blinders off. At least, we're willing to deal with reality.

An occasional brush fire and earthquake can't compare with the bitter cold winters and hot humid summers most of the country has to deal with. Very few people are affected by the fires and earthquakes in Southern California, but everyone is affected by freezing cold winters and intolerable summers that plague most of the U.S.

I'd be willing to wager that 99% of you have never visited California. Further, based on some your skewed, cliched "opinions", you are mimicking the views proffered by O'Reilly, Hannity and Beck (ad nauseam, ad infinitum).

I'd be willing to wager that the majority of you have never strayed outside of your home state (possibly, your hometown). My opinion is based on the fact that the majority of my small-town, high-school classmates, like many of you, never really "grew up". Many resented those of us who worked hard to obtain a higher education (it meant leaving town). Their singular goal in life was to maintain their "small-town" popularity.

As such, I'll assume that those of you mentioned above, chose not to "broaden your horizon" (1) by working hard to obtain a College Degree or (2) you were never voracious readers of books containing different viewpoints and themes.

These days, like many of you, they may not understand the issues, but, they certainly can mimic those pundits.
