Down with a virus, McCartney cancels Tokyo concert

TOKYO (AP) - Paul McCartney came down with a virus and canceled his Tokyo concert Saturday, but he added a performance to make up for the lost show.

"I am very sorry to all my fans as I was greatly looking forward to the concert, but the situation is out of my hands," the former Beatle said on the official Facebook site for his "Out There Japan Tour 2014."

He said he felt sick Friday, and that doctors told him Saturday to cancel his appearance that night at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

But McCartney said he should be well enough for Sunday's scheduled concert and Monday's makeup.

Organizers said tickets for Saturday's show are valid for Monday, but a refund will also be offered. Ticket prices range from 13,500 yen ($130) to 17,500 yen ($170), and an extra 67,000 yen ($650) payment allows entry into the sound-check.

McCartney is also scheduled to perform at Nippon Budokan hall in Tokyo on Wednesday, and at Yanmar Stadium Nagai in Osaka next Saturday. He then plays in Seoul, before hitting several U.S. venues, including Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Some disappointed Japanese fans grumbled on social networking sites that they had traveled for hours from out of town, while others expressed hopes McCartney would get better soon. The online sites periodically went down Saturday from excessive clicks.

"We are planning to replay this show on Monday. I really hope you can make it. Love, Paul," McCartney said.

Get well soon Paul! Why are there haters posting? The guy is a Beatle for God's sake. There won't be anyone else again in our lifetime that achieves what he did over his life span. Can't wait to see him for an 8th time in New Orleans in June with my son I named MCCARTNEY.

Paul McCartney is one of the greatest songwriters and musical artists of all time, whose work has enriched our entire culture. How idiotic it is that some people have nothing more to say than comment on his looks at his age. Everyone's looks change as they get older. So what? It's a blessing that he's still alive and able to perform for his admirers who want to see and hear him.

For all the nay sayers, if you think it's time he hangs it up, try to buy tickets to any of his concerts. You can't because everyone is SOLD OUT. So your opinions are meaningless just as your pitiful life is. And just like you can change the channel on the TV, you don't have to listen to him. Millions of others want to

I give Sir Paul a lot of credit. A lot of people pushing 72 don't have the stamina to do what Paul does. As long as he is out there performing, his true fans will come see him and love him for all his contributions to the music industry. Keep up the good work, Sir Paul.

Stop screaming you idiot. I learned that lots of things from Paul McCarthy especially when its time to hang it up because your voice isn't what it was when you could actually sing.

For all of those making rude comments about how "old" Paul looks and that he should get plastic surgery, etc., are just afraid that they themselves will get old one day and THEIR looks will change. And some stupidly believe that if they do get "old" their looks will not change. Jeez people! EVERYBODY WILL GET OLD AND WRINKLED IF YOU LIVE LONG ENOUGH!!

I am old--I'm 70 and my hair is gray--no one, male or female has their orignal color afer 60 or so --his is still brown--I let mine go for that reason--everyone knows it's a color job. And, I'm not "afraid."

Not true about hair color as you age. It might not be as vibrant, but some people still maintain hair color. My father was one of those people. He passed in his mid-70's with still dark brown hair except at the temples. I know for a fact that he never colored his hair.

So he has a 70 year old voice; his shows are still sounding great. So he sells less than when he was 25; his music still sells far more than all these so-called hip new bands tauted by those under thirty. When was the last time one of these acts featured on Carson Daly late night show was ever seen from again? When was the last time most of the bands mentioned as great on college-age Facebook pages was ever remembered a year later. I am sorry that most of you will never have anything as remotely important, meaningful or influential in your lifetimes again...
