WASHINGTON (AP) - Michelle Obama says she couldn't do everything she does as first lady and as a mother if it weren't for her own mom.

At a White House event Monday recognizing military mothers, Mrs. Obama took time to honor her own mother, Marian Robinson.

Mrs. Obama says there is no way she would "be standing up straight on my feet if it weren't for my mom."

Mrs. Robinson sat in the front row for the East Room event. She lives in the White House with the Obamas.

The first lady joked that her mother never wants to attend any White House events except this one. Mrs. Obama and Jill Biden, Vice President Joe Biden's wife, have made the event an annual tradition.
