Edna Lamping finally went to her first prom.A 91-year-old McKees Rocks native fulfilled a dream Friday night, thanks to her family and the staff at Montour High School.

Edna, 91, and her husband, Joe, 92, weren't high school sweethearts. She grew up in McKees Rocks and he went to high school on the North Side. Joe attended prom as a teenager, but Edna's family never allowed her to go.

"We were originally going to do a prom-style party. My mom said, 'Why don't we see if my alma mater will actually have them at their prom?'" said Kaitlin Dolak, the Lampings' granddaughter.

They set their plan in motion, not telling Edna and Joe.

On Friday, Edna got her nails done, put on a crown and her husband took her to her first prom.

"I think I only found out the last minute. They put a neck tie on me and said, 'We're going some place," said Joe. "Oh, I think I brought the best looking girl here!"

Edna and Joe shared the night's first dance on the dance floor to a Frank Sinatra song.

"We used to dance Friday, Saturday and Sunday. But not anymore because the legs don't carry ya," Edna said, laughing. Teenagers don't dance like Edna remembers in her polka days, though. "Oh yeah, now they just stand in one place and shake it," she said.

Montour High School junior and senior students cheered on the Lampings during their first dance, screaming loudly when Joe leaned in for a kiss and then broke out in a solo dance of his own.

They'll celebrate 68 years together in June.
