Pope to priests: Forgive, don't shut out sinners

VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Francis has taken to task priests who are so harsh on sinners that faithful feel pushed away by the church.

Francis said during his homily in St. Peter's Basilica Sunday that he feels very pained when people don't go to confession anymore because they were figuratively "caned, scolded" by their confessors. He said these faithful feel as if "the church doors were closed in their face."

"Please don't do this," the pope told 13 new priests he ordained in the basilica. He urged them to follow the example of Jesus in never tiring of being merciful. Francis said priests should remember that Jesus "didn't come to condemn but to forgive."

the Bible says: Watch out for false prophets They come to you dress like sheep, but inside they are vicious wolves. Matt.7:15

If any church was as perfect as you want it to be there wouldn't be any room for you. Lot of folks in here have a big bag of stones. And they use them very well. Heavy to carry through life a big bag of throwing stones.

So much hate and venom in these comments it is really sick. For people who know the Bible you might go back to judge not..lest you be judged.. Lot of people here have themselves mixed up for being God. Ignorance isn't bliss..it's expensive. Hate is not a family value, and not a Christian or human value. Who would ever want to follow Jesus with these posts. My dear Lord Jesus save me from your followers.

Thank you for your prayers....one parish is one to many. Too bad Jesus had to leave His Church in the hands of men, weak like Peter and the rest..Also sinners ,can you believe it. Could Jesus not find any 'super humans' to look after His church..Shame on him.

Read all about the Roman Catholic Church in the book of Revelation. It's referred to as the Great ***** of Babylon, drunk with the wine of her abominations and the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. It's a foul odiferous criminal church full of pervert clergy. The RCC is so evil I have every reason to think certain priests use the confessional to blackmail stupid dupes.

A man puts his hands on the head of another man kneeling in front of him and he's a pope. I do it and I'm a sinner. Go figure!

When the diciples found a replacement for Judas, they placed their hands on his head and prayed over him...its scriptural..I dont know why you say "..I do it and I'm a sinner." If your hands are on someone and you are praying for the Holy Spirit to come upon them..for healing or any other reason you are definitly not sinning.

This is what the Church believed just a few centuries ago. From the WORD OF GOD .. 2 Chron. 15:13 says, "Whosoever would not seek the Lord God of Isreal, should be put to death. Whether small or great, man or woman." Is there ever a time when this would be acceptable?

Whoever does not seek the Lord God of Israel is put to SPITIRUAL death, not physical death.

Pope Francis is just what we need, he practices forgiveness. Just like he said to the new priests. No one is perfect, we all sin maybe not all of the time but we still do it. And it is not always Catholics, all churches there members sin.
May God forgive us.

I have known many ministers--used to be one--and priests (Episcopal, Catholic, Orthodox) and NONE of them butt-humped any kids. You must be a Catholic to be so blind. "My church my church! Right5 or wrong my church!" Sheesh. There are none so blind as those who WILL NOT see. I hope one of your kids gets buggered by good hearted Father O'Malley. :-)
