Obama takes heckler's shouting in stride

President Obama showed he kills them with kindness when a heckler interrupted the end of his speech in San Jose, Cali., Thursday night.

"I want to hear it from you. I love you back! ... You kind of screwed up my ending there, but that's all right. And we've got free speech in this country, which is great too," Obama said in response to the man in the audience.

But allegedly, there was a reason for the shouting. USA Today reports this protester's unique cry wasn't about gay marriage or climate change... but Ethiopia.

The paper says the man, "appeared to be supportive of Obama and handed out a letter he said he sent to the president about helping 'the oppressed people of Ethiopia.' In the letter, the man described himself as 'an exiled journalist and freedom activist trying to raise the voices' of the people of Ethiopia."

The speaking event was the fourth and final Democratic fundraiser scheduled in California this week. The president had traveled to San Jose to meet with some of the biggest names in tech, such as Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and Y Combinator President Sam Altman.

Its reported guests, including the heckler, paid between $1,000 and $32,400 for a seat... and maybe a shout, too. Even though only one heckler forked over the money to get inside, KRXI reports the president was met by protesters waiting at the door.

"Several dozen protesters demonstrated outside the president's fundraiser last night at the San Jose Fairmont hotel. They want President Obama to reject the keystone pipeline which would carry crude oil from Canada to the US."

According to White House transcripts, Obama did not touch on the pipeline issue, but told the audience the majority of Americans support the direction Democrats want to take the country. This includes raising the minimum wage and making sure women receive equal pay.

However, the Commander-in-Chief stressed his party is losing faith because of Washington gridlock from across the aisle.
