And the most polluted city in the world is ...

Delhi Ranked World's Most Air-Polluted City

A new report from the World Health Organization lists the cities with the most polluted air -- and unfortunately, a lot of cites are on it.

Topping the list is Delhi. Euronews' video makes it easy to see why.

Delhi is closely followed by another Indian city, Patna.

Both report about 150 micrograms of PM2.5, an airborne particulate matter that's harmful to health. The WHO considers 25 micrograms a safe limit, meaning those two cities have that six times over.

CNN reports, "PM2.5 refers to the diameter measured in microns of particulates such as ammonia, carbon, nitrates and sulfate -- which are small enough to pass into the bloodstream and cause diseases such as emphysema and cancer."

You thought the air in China was bad. Actually CBS reports no Chinese city, not even the smog-covered Beijing, cracked the top 20, though reports indicate China's data came from 2010. Bejing has been posting PM2.5 numbers hourly since January 2012.

The top graph shows PM2.5. At press time, Beijing was at Delhi levels. And the city reportedly recorded an average of about 90 micrograms last month, which would put it at number 17 on the WHO's list.

As the list stands now, Indian cities make up half of it. A few in Pakistan and Bangladesh also ranked highly.

Indian publication Northern Voices Online calls the report "damning," saying it "cannot be brushed aside."

And that's exactly WHO's goal with this data. It's not trying to shame Delhi, but rather spark greater awareness and hopefully change.

The report also shows that, in general, air pollution is getting worse due to "reliance on fossil fuels such as coal fired power plants, dependence on private transport motor vehicles, inefficient use of energy in buildings, and the use of biomass for cooking and heating."

A WHO report released in March found air pollution killed about 7 million people in 2012. This figure "confirms that air pollution is now the world's largest single environmental health risk."

Holy BatCrap!
The reason my old toilet stank, was that it was old, over-used,
And, it needed to be replaced with a newer better model.
WE CAN'T DO THE SAME WITH THE MOTHER EARTH!

It doesn't really matter what the U.S. does to reduce pollution & global warming if all the other world countries don't follow suite.

The most polluted place in the world is the United Nations in New York. It's polluted with corruption, hyprocrisy, and thievery. It is polluted with two-bit dictators and leftist criminals. No place on earth is worse than the UN.

India and Pakistan are dirty, filthy places. EVERYTHING is filthy... air, streets, restaurants, airports, homes, etc... Their businesses and governmental leaders are among the most self-centered and uncaring in the world!!!

Interersting, again the report never is for North America, the over legislation in the USA, by the tree huggers, are a major reason for our industrial industry, becoming smarller and smaller. We do not have a major problem here, even thought the tree huggers continually go after our economical success. They come up with tax backed energy alternates, that are a sham, costing the tax papers millions, if not billions instead of using our natural resources, while at the same time using proven inovation in protecting the enviroment. We have stiffiled our ability to adapt, and maintain a life style even by the world. Instead, we allowed, due to our tolerance, to listen to uneducated, self- serving hyprocrites.

The Global Warming gang wants us to cut our relatively tiny output of carbon dioxide, plus pay a tax on the rest of our output, plus eliminate fossil fuel generation plants, which will cause the price of electricity to sky rocket. However, absolutely nothing will be done to curtail India's or China's tremendous outputs. The end result will be nothing except the American taxpayer will get screwed!

No surprise here. Allowing pollution to happen is another tool both China and India use to unfairly compete with the US and other western countries.

The bottom line is -- most of the powers that be, including giant corporations and governments bought off by the oligarchy don't care about the middle class or those who are poor, so long as there are enough to them to provide a cheap source of labor. They also fund a disinformation campaign currently being waged by American conservatives which is pretty much on the same level as when tobacco companies used to deny that smoking was bad for us. I guess it will take more ice melting, millions of people and animals needlessly suffering and dying (which is already happening) before we will be proven right, and by then it will be too late.
