This is how they test to see if lions can swim

Lion Cubs Pass Swimming Test

Some adorable lion cubs were given a test -- in swimming!

Handlers put the cubs in the water ... and pretty much watched to see if the little ones could figure it out.

The test took place at the Smithsonian's National Zoo in D.C. And don't worry -- no cubs were hurt in the making of the video.

"All cubs born at the Great Cats exhibit must undergo the swim reliability test and prove that they are ready to be on exhibit."

WUSA says the four cubs, three male and one female, all proved they were ready.

Mashable joked that with Michael Phelps coming out of retirement, he might want to be on the lookout for these four adorable swimmers. What's next? After vaccinations, the cubs should be ready to be viewed by the public in mid-June.

What a stupid thing to do, to just dump each one in the water. All cats and dogs will naturally "dog paddle" to survive in the water

Hmmm. Have they every dropped a cub into the pool who struggled to swim? This seems unnecessary. Cats swim instinctively - that's a fact.

Just proves the sadistic nature of humans. We know they can swim, but lets torture them anyway. Sometimes I hate this planet.

this is animal abuse - plain and simple - don't these people watch National Geographic channels to see where some prides do swim in order to get to their prey?

They are just beautiful cats! Again its nice to see human kindness towards animals in this world and I know its a zoo and you have to be nice. Thank God! I care more for animals in this world more than people theses days!

What most people don't know is that cats are very good swimmers and sometimes swim to hunt their pray.
