A highway in Sacramento had be shut down Tuesday afternoon, but not because of a car accident or construction.

Yes, you're seeing this correctly. That's a dog scampering right down the highway, with police officers unsuccessfully trying to capture it. A KXTV camera crew captured an aerial view of this bizarre incident and the dog that literally stopped traffic.

"That was a fast dog. It left them in the dust. And he's still on the run today."

That's right. After putting all those officers through a killer workout, the dog still managed to avoid getting picked up. But HLN's morning show anchors don't think the officers went about it in the right way.

"Where's your kibbles and bits?"
'Yeah, you need treats, man. Get yourself some treats."

We've never seen a dog turn down food before, so maybe they're onto something.

KXTV's Facebook page says the station managed to capture the footage just by being in the right place at the right time. A team was actually recording the construction crews working to fix Highway 50 when the little dog came running.

It's unknown whether the dog is a stray or lives in a home near the highway.
