Man builds roller coaster in his backyard

The dad of the year award might go to a man in San Francisco. He's reminding us all that with a little hard work anything is possible.

"A San Francisco dad built a roller coaster in his backyard ... Pemble said it took about six months to build the 180-foot ride."

It might be the best DIY project we've seen in a while. It took 300 hours of work and about $3,500, but the coaster is now fully functional. The coaster started with one 10-year-old's big dream.

KNTV reports Lyle Pemble came up with this idea after riding his first roller coaster over the summer. When he asked his dad if they could build their own ride, Will couldn't think of a reason to say no.

Will told KPIX it turns the worksheets Lyle had to do at school into something a little more tangible.

'There needs to be something on the other side of that math that's worth slogging through the math. So if there's a coaster at the other side of how many feet of track do we need...then suddenly the word problem gets done really fast.'

But "Fox and Friends" anchor Brian Kilmeade says this invention is raising the bar for dads a little too high.

"Congratulations dad you made us all look terrible. If you can't snap it together, it's not going in my backyard."

Be on the lookout, though. There's a chance you might ride on a roller coaster designed by Lyle in the future. He told KPIX he wants to become a roller coaster designer.
