American Idol's Scotty McCreery Robbed at Gunpoint During Home Invasion

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Police say country music singer Scotty McCreery was the victim of an early morning home invasion near the campus of North Carolina State University, where he is a student.

Raleigh Police spokesman Jim Sughrue says officers were called shortly before 2 a.m. Monday to an apartment about a mile from campus. Three suspects armed with guns are reported to have taken wallets, cash and electronic items.

Police say the 20-year-old McCreery was among the victims. No one was injured.

A native of nearby Garner, McCreery won TV's American Idol in 2011. He was named best new artist at the Academy of Country Music Awards the next year. In addition to being a recording star and a pitchman for Bojangles' Chicken 'n Biscuits, McCreery is wrapping up his sophomore year of college.

Why so many negitive comments. Just because he has so much talent and did well for himself are we happy now that a young man and others too I might add was robbed. Jealous people making comments about him not controlling his spending and faking a robbery. What is wrong with this society. Does it always have to be that we look for a way to blame the victim. And yes it makes the headlines, cause guess what he is famous. Get over it jealous people, you want to make the headlines, learn to sing

I think there is much to be said about the fact that he is still in college. He doesn't need to be there financially but still is. Congrats. to you Scotty for making the choice to still continue your education even after Idol. Get your concealed weapons permit.

I agree jayjay66. Most winners like Scotty think the money is everything and forget about education.....live the high life, get on drugs and lose it all. Huge congratulations to Scotty...good head on those shoulders. You guys criticizing him are NUT cases.

Any one who dose home invasion robbery deserves to get their asses shot off... This is why we have a 2nd amendment . If these criminals think they are going to face an armed home owner they may consider a different line of work.... or at least choose another house.

I wonder if it might be helpful if they had given the surrounding public a description of the individuals responsible?
