Madeleine McCann cops to start digging up resort where she vanished

Police Digging Where Madeleine McCann Disappeared

It's been more than seven years since British toddler Madeline McCann was last seen at a Portuguese resort.

But now, after reopening the investigation, British police say the search for the missing girl will enter a new phase. The Daily Mirror reports Scotland Yard detectives will now travel to Portugal "to launch extensive digs" in the holiday area where Madeleine vanished.

The BBC notes according to that report, Madeleine's parents, Gerry and Kate McCann, have been briefed by investigators about the plans to use radar equipment to comb three areas for clues to their daughter's disappearance.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 triggered an international manhunt that became one of most heavily reported missing persons case of the last decade.

Global News reports Madeleine was just three years old when she vanished from her family's vacation apartment in Praia da Luz. Her parents reportedly left Madeleine and her siblings sleeping in the apartment when they went out to dinner nearby with friends. When they returned, she was gone.

According to Fox News, the investigation "has been marked by tension between the [British] Police and Portuguese investigators."

According to NBC British detectives claim local authorities in Portugal still have yet to share requested files and evidence from the original investigation. Even now, a source close to the McCanns says British police aren't acting on a specific tip, but rather are searching the area for clues local authorities may have missed.

The McCanns publicly maintain that their daughter is still alive. Madeleine would be 11 years old on May 12.

Every time I read ANYTHING about this case I wonder to myself - what in the hell were those people thinking to be in a foreign land or anywhere and leave their children in an apartment while they went out to dinner NEARBY! We would look in on our children at that age when we had friends over to the house! You're parents - there are things you have to temporairly give up or get the proper person to be with your children. While they are so little you must be with them or properly supervised. I am sure the parents beat themselves up about this all the time - but guess what? Too @#$%^& LATE!

Dictionary use please. Aah, the words are stupidity, hotel, themselves, little, siblings, those, their, negligence. That's just spelling. We won't get into grammar. Please don't post until you can actually ... well you get it. One spelling error is a mistake, but this many spelling and grammar errors, please. Some of you may complain but there is absolutely no excuse for putting this out in public. Grammar and spelling are 4th and 5th grade work in any school, any country. Yes, I agree it is wrong to leave children alone anywhere, but apparently in that particular country it is quite common, and they did it quite often since they vacationed there often. I won't judge or condem since I don't live nor vacation in Portugal. I pray that this family finds answers and peace. I know they must be suffering a good deal of anxiety for this whole ordeal.

If you are on vacation, why not let your kids go to dinner also. Otherwise if this was just for parents. LEAVE CHILDREN WITH GRANDPARENTS.

i will never understand how they find evidence years later, if the evidence was there why did,nt they check it years ago, i dont believe the parents were involved but i do believe they were guilty of neglect, one lousy bottle of wine they were drinking probably cost more than hiring a baby sitter to watch their kids, was the wine that good . i do think the child was abducted and murdered by someone staying very close to the hotel. another child has to suffer because some people should not have kids, if you are going to have them than watch them, forget the damn wine

Why, in the name of God, would any parent go to dinner and leave a child alone??? That makes NO sense to anyone with half a brain.

And none of us would have ever heard of this family if they'd only shelled out for a babysitter.

I don't think it's finger-pointing at all. It is what it is. The parents admitted that they left their babies alone while they went out. If that would've happened in this country to any normal couple, they would've been charged with neglect and child endangerment at the very least. When are people going to learn that having children requires certain sacrifices while the kids are little. If you aren't willing to forego dining out with friends or partying unless you can afford a sitter, then don't have kids - plain and simple. How many children have to be adbducted, raped, sold, and murdered while otherwise intelligent parents have their heads up their asses? It's bad enough when mindless idiots have kids, but these are supposed to be educated people....doctors! If they can't get parenting right, what chance do kids have? We've become a very self-centered society - for some, everything comes before the kids. Very sad
