PayPal exec fired after Twitter rant about colleagues

PayPal Exec Goes On Twitter Rant About Colleagues
PayPal's new director of strategy already lost his job after violating what might be social media's unspoken number one rule - no Twitter rants about your colleagues.

According to Business Insider Rakesh Agrawal, hired in March, was in New Orleans for Jazz Fest over the weekend where it appeared he might have had way too much to drink. Most of the Tweets have been taken down, but there are, of course, screen grabs of some of the more... candid ones, like this.

"Duck you Smedley you useless middle. manager." (Via Twitter / Rakesh Agrawal)

FYI, Christina Smedley is PayPal's vice president of global communications. He continues.

"Christina Smedley is a useless. Piece of..." Then it just gets really blurry from there.

The next day Agrawal tweeted an apology to PayPal's president as well as to the V.P. of growth and global strategy.

PayPal sent out a little tweet of its own in response to Agrawal's rant, saying the company has"zero tolerance."

Oh, but it doesn't stop there. Through a tweet, of course, Agrawal made it clear he was not fired, he quit.

He also chocked up the incident to a different Twitter interface on his new phone and said the messages were meant to be private.

Now, there was some hoopla over PayPal's decision to hire Agrawal in the fist place. Take a look at that headline from VentureBeat - yikes. It's a guest post written by Agrawal back in 2012.

According to VentureBeat, Agrawal is "a consultant focused on the intersection of local, social, mobile and payments."

TechCruch notes he also works with reDesign mobile and will likely bounce back from this ordeal.

Writing, "For what it's worth, he seems to have offered his services to Foursquare, promising that he could make it a '$50 billion company.'"

No word on if Foursqure will take him up on that offer, but in the meantime Mr. Agrawal is TMIing it all over Twitter in what seems to be an attempt to mop up some of the PayPal mess.

Typical Silicon Valley import, they are all over the place and act like they are above anything or anyone American. They are here for the paycheck, period.

I might be old school and all by not wanting all the new gadgets they have but one thing for sure you will never hear or read anything from me that needs to be taken back. Like I always said if you want to talk to me just call I don't need twitter, text, or any of that junk. You open your trap you get what you deserve.

Ahhh yes, the continuing infatuation by the brain dead with social media has burnt one of the promoters of the dementia - GOOD!

We are to blame for supporting sites like this, FB, Twitter, or any social media, a government that has turned into Big Brother, and I could go on.

The sites are free. So how are we supporting them? You have the choice, you participate or you don't. Take note: Even in this article, which has zero to do with politics, you are seeing Obama, Bush, Reagan, and the term "liberal" thrown about. Government has nothing to do with any of this. Sooner or later, you're going to see the bible nuts come out too.

Why any adult with half a brain would spend even a second on Twitter or Facebook is beyond me. How dumb can people be? Tnose random rants are permanent. Every thing we write is public ... even this comment. But I'll stand by it ...

I'm not on Facebook, but as far as families go, if you can manage to keep it private (which seems doubtful), the concept of putting up images and family events to share is great. So much easier than writing each person individually. 2nd benefit is photos...that would give family members access to the photos without paying huge data fees. Unfortunately it seems too many use it as a public forum, rather than a more simple plan.
