Attack thwarted: Teen planned massive assault

Police Say Minn. Teen Was Planning Massacre

John LaDue, a 17-year-old from Minnesota, has been arrested both in connection with the March discovery of explosive devices at a local elementary school, and for another, even more sinister plot.

KARE mentions "The plan that LaDue laid out in a journal police now have would have included bombs in the schools, murdering the school resource officer and then shooting at will until he was taken out by a SWAT team. LaDue planned to die."

The mentioned journal was reportedly 180 detailed pages, and police say the plan was originally to be executed April 20 - a nod to another American tragedy.

In the journal, police say LaDue wrote he idolized the Columbine shooters - the teens who executed the deadly school shootings on April 20, 1999 in Colorado. However, the date fell on a Sunday this year, so LaDue didn't act.

Police say LaDue was also going to start a fire in rural Waseca to distract first responders, then go to the school to kill as many people as possible.

KMSP reports "Officers at a press conference today admit the only reason LaDue is under arrest now is because someone spotted him going inside a rented storage unit on Tuesday evening and thought it looked suspicious."

WCCO reports "By doing the right thing, unimaginable tragedy has been prevented."

Police say they believe LaDue was going to attack within the next few weeks. The revelations have shocked the city - school officials say he was a good student, although quiet. Still, KSTP says search of his home and storage unit proved everyone wrong:

"Police found seven guns, several bombs, bomb making chemicals and a pressure cooker."

KARE reports a juvenile petition says LaDue is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder. This comes a little more than a month after explosives were found in melting snow outside an elementary school, neither of which hurt anyone. Police believe LaDue is responsible for that incident.

Put God back in the schools then see what happens. If you take God out you are asking for trouble!

I would like to suggest every student wear uniforms from now on. The main cause of all these violence is not the society, not parents, not teachers, but it is how the kids are socialized in school. Everyone separates into groups: jocks, punks, preps, goths, rich kids, poor kids, stoners, ethnic gangs, and then there are the loners who don't fit into any group. This is because we promote individualism. This separating of students into groups leads to status and status leads to bullying and outcasting.

Shooting the resource officer first then having a field day shooting everybody else?

Any reason why he planned to shoot the officer first?

Because he's the only one that's armed and that he would put up a decent amount of resistance to his plan, while everybody else (staff, students, etc) are all fish in a barrel.

If people were allowed to carry concealed firearms in that school, then he wouldn't know exactly WHO would put up resistance besides the officer, and therefore the uncertainty alone would most likely have prevented his plan of shooting these helpless fish in a barrel.

Your attitude is a major society problem not the solution. Children can be daring. They also demand complete control. They like the feel of something powerful and lethal in their hands. They are falsely convinced it gives them complete power to control others and makes them invincible. That is exactly the false security embraced by every paranoid firearms worshipper. You have no respect for the firearm. That means you should not have any.

You just said the one planning to commit domestic terrorist acts should be allowed to conceal carry lethal firearms. These are your exact words: "If people were allowed to carry concealed firearms in that school,........" That teenager is a person among the collective of all persons/people making up the US nation, and you said "If people......" Meaning that home grown terrorist as well. Firearms worshipers have no logic capability of logical thinking or compassion for others. Your post is clear proof of that.

Evidently you need to brush up on your comprehension skills, because when I said "people" I meant "law abiding citizens who have a permit to carry a concealed weapon", but I didn't think anybody would be stupid enough to not understand that.

It's also a good thing that you're in no position of authority, because you clearly don't have any idea just how much I respect, and promote the safe handling of firearms.

I would say that you don't have any respect for anybody, therefore you shouldn't have the right to speak, but that's just as idiotic as what you told me about my owning firearms, and quite frankly I'm not that childish.

This is a perfect example of someone who needs to be put away for life without parole.

The state of Georgia just passed a law making it legal to carry a gun ANYWARE. Public buildings, schools and churches. There is one exception. The state capitol where these lawmakers work.
