Attack thwarted: Teen planned massive assault

Police Say Minn. Teen Was Planning Massacre

John LaDue, a 17-year-old from Minnesota, has been arrested both in connection with the March discovery of explosive devices at a local elementary school, and for another, even more sinister plot.

KARE mentions "The plan that LaDue laid out in a journal police now have would have included bombs in the schools, murdering the school resource officer and then shooting at will until he was taken out by a SWAT team. LaDue planned to die."

The mentioned journal was reportedly 180 detailed pages, and police say the plan was originally to be executed April 20 - a nod to another American tragedy.

In the journal, police say LaDue wrote he idolized the Columbine shooters - the teens who executed the deadly school shootings on April 20, 1999 in Colorado. However, the date fell on a Sunday this year, so LaDue didn't act.

Police say LaDue was also going to start a fire in rural Waseca to distract first responders, then go to the school to kill as many people as possible.

KMSP reports "Officers at a press conference today admit the only reason LaDue is under arrest now is because someone spotted him going inside a rented storage unit on Tuesday evening and thought it looked suspicious."

WCCO reports "By doing the right thing, unimaginable tragedy has been prevented."

Police say they believe LaDue was going to attack within the next few weeks. The revelations have shocked the city - school officials say he was a good student, although quiet. Still, KSTP says search of his home and storage unit proved everyone wrong:

"Police found seven guns, several bombs, bomb making chemicals and a pressure cooker."

KARE reports a juvenile petition says LaDue is charged with four counts of attempted first-degree murder. This comes a little more than a month after explosives were found in melting snow outside an elementary school, neither of which hurt anyone. Police believe LaDue is responsible for that incident.

Put God back in the schools then see what happens. If you take God out you are asking for trouble!

So when did NSA find out about this? Again, we spend $400 billion, and we can't find an undrage teen buying explosives.

You don't always "buy" explosives... they can be easy to make with common household items. What sucks is how the media constantly tell how to make them!

EXACTLY! Just watch the news it'll show/tell you everything you need to do and what not to do in order to pull something like this off.

Lucky for him , only seven guns. Think that was enough for someone seventeen. Don't take away his rights.

I have to agree with you Brian. Don't take away his rights.
Like you, I have also noticed that it isn't the right of every American to own a gun that is the problem.
It is just evil people that are doing evil things. (And it seems to be escalating)
Evil people can commit atrocious acts with almost any object invented my mankind.
Unfortunately I can't even convince my Mom, God Luv Her.
She still actually believes that if you outlaw guns that all crime will just somehow vanish:)
The problem with evil is that there is almost nothing you can do to stop it. We all can be aware and vigilant but, truth be told, evil people will always do evil things.
All I can say is:
Thank God we live in the United States Of America for the Police, Military, Special Services, Secret Service, etc. that are doing the best that they can to try and keep us isolated from the evil of the world that would like nothing more than to harm others.

I read a comment put God back in our schools. I believe that but if God is not in the home than school isnt going to do much good. Parents need to be the first teachers and then teachers and leaders and role models for their kids throughout life. I also agree you can have good parenting and still get a child who has bad wiring. The public school has taught our young it is all about them. What they think, feel, want etc. They have taught that everyone is responsible for the wrongs of others. And there is always a reason to understand the criminals sad life. What they should be taught is you are responsible for your own actions and reactions. You make your choices and recieve the consequences of those choices. Our children need to taught to stand up against bullying abuse of any form and report it.To care about themselves and others. That is taught in the home. the school was created to teach reading writing and arithmatic. not raise our young.

What the hell gets into these kids heads that makes them want to kill others? If he really wants to die, take a gun, go out in the boonies somewhere & have at it! That way only his family & friends are affected by his actions. What is this sick desire to take others out with them? Do they even comprehend the damage they will do to people by going through with their plans? Do they care about the lives of people, (The Mother's, Father's, aunt's brother's, etc. of the ones who perished) who would be destroyed by their actions? I really don't get it!! I am SO glad he was found out before anything tragic happened! Thank you to whoever saw his suspicious activity & made that phone call!!

take a good look at the video games these kids play most of these kids "kill" everyday in their free time....only going to get worse! working at a well known retailer, it amazes me that a parent will actually show a DL to buy there young child a video game because of the rating something is seriously wrong

This is going to happen in a liberal society. Get used to it. Kids grow up now in an era of fatherless homes, entitlement, drugs, and moral decay. It will only get worse. The more gun control the liberals call for in their emotional response to shootings , the more people stock up on guns and more kids get access to them. They just don't get it. Guns are not the problem. It's the morally bankrupt kids we are raising ..

I would like to suggest every student wear uniforms from now on. The main cause of all these violence is not the society, not parents, not teachers, but it is how the kids are socialized in school. Everyone separates into groups: jocks, punks, preps, goths, rich kids, poor kids, stoners, ethnic gangs, and then there are the loners who don't fit into any group. This is because we promote individualism. This separating of students into groups leads to status and status leads to bullying and outcasting.
