Madeleine McCann's parents desperate for answers

Madeleine McCann's Parents Desperate For Answers

The parents of Madeleine McCann, the 3-year-old girl who went missing during a family vacation in Portugal seven years ago, are speaking out about their daughter's disappearance.

Kate and Gerry McCann say they desperately want answers about what happened to their daughter, who disappeared from her bed while her parents ate at a nearby restaurant in 2007.

A British TV show recreating the event has sparked many tips from viewers. But although there still aren't any solid answers, the McCanns remain hopeful.

"Time rolling on for us is still painful, and living in a limbo of not knowing is horrible. ... We want the progress that's been made to continue."

And according to British tabloid The Sun, the McCanns believe renewed investigations might result in their daughter being found alive, although they're frustrated there has been no joint inquiry between British and Portuguese police.

Kate told NBC, "If we haven't found Madeleine or we haven't found what happened then we haven't done enough."

Investigators say they might have identified a link between a potential suspect and a series of break-ins targeting British families in the area.

Kate McCann has launched a new child rescue alert system in the U.K., similar to the U.S.'s Amber Alert. She believes the new system will save lives and deter other abductors.

It's a shame, and people question the death penalty for obductors of children? I guarantee it was not a stork that abducted her!

Exactly! The parents left a child alone in a hotel room to drink and eat. They didn't want to bother with their child. What did they expect would happen?

They should have never left her while they were eating. That was their first mistake. If someone took this child, and didn't do away with her, then she is out there some place. I sure hope they find her and prove that it is her.

What happened is that they left their children while they ate and drank and had fun with newly met friends. They caused the loss by their neglect as far as I am concerned. Sorry if I offend, but I NEVER did buy into their act when she went missing.......

My husband and I were in Scotland for three weeks right after the abduction and there was tons of coverage. The parents were desparate and clearly grief stricken. I really pray Madeleine is alive and well and will be found.

It's unimaginable to me how painful the McCann's lives must be EVERYDAY. Sometimes I hope for their and their daughter's sake that she was killed soon after her abduction ... that she wasn't in any kind of pain or terror for long. And that she wasn't sold into some kind of slavery situation or worse. Then there are times I think of the abducted children who have lived as the "children" of someone else ... not ideal by any stretch ... but I pray that if she is alive, that she was "abducted for adoption" by someone who is simply raising her as their own. Naïve, I know, but am always trying to think of how to look at the possibilities that would make this less painful for her and her parents.

One thing that really will save lives and protect children is if they aren't left alone while Mom and Dad go out to dinner!

My thought also. Had those children had a responsible adult with them, there would be no story.
