Law would require changing tables in male restrooms

CA Lawmakers Push Bills Requiring Baby Changing Tables In Men's Restrooms

As the dynamics of the modern family evolve, California lawmakers are pushing two bills that require baby-changing tables in men's restrooms. Two bills mandating businesses to grant men equal access to changing tables have cleared the California State Senate Transportation and Housing Committee on Tuesday.

One of the bills proposes a changing station that is accessible to both men and women. The bill's sponsor told Fox News, "...traditional gender roles with women as the primary caregiver for the children are changing, and men are becoming more and more involved in the care of their young children. There are also a growing number of same-sex households with children."

The other bill requires changing tables in every men's and women's restroom in restaurants, movie theaters, shopping centers, and public facilities.

The proposed bills are a sign of progress, but they would force costly regulations on businesses and there is no certainty either will pass in the state senate.

I think it's long overdue. All restrooms should have changing tables - legislating it utter nonsense - just do it.

Restrooms should be unisex anyway. A gay man entering a mens room is the same as a straight man entering a ladies room. Why is their sex bias segregation in 2014? That way transgenders need not have separate facilities. Separate but equal went out with Plessy v Ferguson

Been doing this for years and wondered why it was noit set up that way in the future. A mandate is not the way to go but making the design for all renovations and upgrades and new construction will go a far way to resolving this issue. Also in lots of large venues, a "Family " bathroom for both sexes and changing tables is set up at malls, rest stops on highways and places such as venues with crowds that have kids such as arcades and kid friendly restauraunts with playplaces such as McDonalds, Burger king and Chuck-E Cheezes. Many ways to resolve, but if they say family friendly, they should offer accomodation to both parents or eaither sex parent for single parents who are often that way not by choice but circumstances such as widows and widowers. So much can be done by just thoughtful planning.

So the mental processes (I use that term loosely) of California's legislators goes something like this..."The state's economy is in the tank, we have enormous crime problems and illegal immigration, and businesses are fleeing the state like rats off a sinking ship. I know! We'll ram a law through mandating changing tables in men's rooms!"
Wow. No wonder companies are relocating to Texas. That is, by the way, the
"backward state" (as most liberals in California think of it) where I live and, incidentally, MOST of the places outlined in the article ALREADY HAVE changing stations where I do business. Figure that.

What a great idea. THere are many single dads................This should have been done all along. there SHOULD be no need for a new law.

I think this is great. We have many single dads and sometimes even if he is married there are times the dad is out with his children by himself.
