3-year-old becomes firefighter for a day

Make-A-Wish Fulfills 3-Year-Old's Dream Of Becoming Firefighter

Tyren Johnson is a pint-sized heart transplant survivor, and he had his special dream of becoming a fireman granted on Tuesday.

"Fire truck sirens go off as a special fireman reaches Engine 54 in Detroit. Out of the truck comes 3-year-old Tyren who, thanks to the Michigan Make A Wish Foundation, was a fireman for the day."

Tyren's mom, Tiesha Johnson, said he loves firetrucks and has always wanted to be a firefighter.

Tyren was greeted by dozens of people, and he had a very exciting day ahead of him.

"Sprayed the hose, toured the fire house, had lunch with the firefighters."

Tyren was rockin' his custom-made fireman suit with his name on the back while he was told he was an official Detroit firefighter for the day.

Johnson told WJBK that Tyren was only on the heart transplant list for two days before receiving it, and miracles can truly happen.

"Anything is possible. Cause he almost didn't make it."

"All of this was made possible by the Make A Wish Foundation in Michigan, along with, of course, the Detroit Fire Department."

Tuesday was also the World Wish Day. The anniversary of the first Make A Wish request in the spring of 1980. The foundation now grants approximately one wish every 38 minutes.

Well, Tyren definitely seemed to be having a good time. The little cutie is said to be recovering very well from the transplant.

Kid looks good in the outfit. Hope he gets to be old and grey and has plenty of stories of the ladys he had to turn away.

That is a great story but I have to add we just had a huuuuge fire in our neighborhood and 8 fire trucks or more showed up. The firefighters got on that hot roof with 20 foot high flames next to them and with a chain saw cut a hole in that hot roof. I've never seen men and women firefighters with such courage in my life. They got that fire out in a couple hours, and I'm still in awe of well....their balls of steel, frankly. Stunning bravery and I have immense gratitude. They are a very special, gifted people.

He didn't pass away. He had a heart transplant and this was his special wish, because he wants to be a fireman. He is very much alive.

My grandson, from the time he could talk, wanted to drive trains, and now he is actually doing just that. I hope this boy grows up to follow his dream, too.....it really is possible.

It most certainly is possible, and after this wonderful experience, which he will probably remember forever, he might just do it.
