'Antiques Roadshow' Appraisal Leaves Woman Light-Headed

'Antiques Roadshow' Appraisal Leaves Woman Light-Headed

On "Antiques Roadshow," a woman brought in an oil painting she inherited from her father over 30 years ago.

The woman said her dad was a lover of all art, and collected pieces he liked throughout his life. This painting was by Maurice Utrillo, a French painter and son of acclaimed artist Suzanne Valadon. When the woman found out the painting was worth between $80,000 and $120,000 dollars, she was totally shocked ... and giggly.
When she head the news, she responded with simply "Wow... Thank you Dad!" "I'm feeling a little light-headed right now..."

The appraiser replied, "Is that right? Don't faint on me."

Maurice Utrillo was born in Paris and specialized in cityscapes. He was particularly ill in his 30s, suffering from alcoholism and mental illnesses. Because of this, he liked to paint from home. The painting seen on the show was actually a view from his window in France.

Fans on Twitter were loving the episode, and the woman's reaction to the painting -- wishing they had a piece of art worth that much.

You can visit ArtNet.com to take a look at more of his Utrillo's artwork -- and see how you can purchase an original.

I only partly agree with you. Yes, sell it, invest 50%, save 25% for a rainy day, then take the last 25% and take your vacation of a lifetime. $30,000 can buy you a pretty good vacation……………

I'd rather listen to the Roadshow video, than listen to your squeaky voice.

Reminds me of the episode where a gentlemen came in with some small carved figures of animals his father had aquired for pennies over his years of working in China. The appraiser was literally shaking when he told the son that these figures were the rarerest of rare Chinese Jade and that they were collectively worth over $1 MILLION.

Have you heard the one about the guy whose parents had a Rivera painting, bought 30-40 years ago on their honeymoon in Mexico, but when at home, decided they did not like it and put it behind their bedroom door. Their son took it Antiques Roadshow and learned it was a lost Rivera painting worth 1.2 million. Now that is a story!

There is always more than meets the eye when it comes to art.
Utrillo oil is worth more than they quoted her... interesting.
Where did her father get it from?/
