China builds world's fastest elevator

World's Fastest Elevator
China holds the record for the largest population and of course longest wall and now they're about to break another record.

A skyscraper in the country's southern city of Guangzhou is getting the world's fastest elevator - able to shoot up 95 floors in just 43 seconds.

The lightning-speed elevator is set to be installed in an under-construction finance center which will house a hotel, offices, and residential space.

So, 95 floors in 43 seconds...Just how fast is that? The elevator's designer, Hitachi, announced that the high-speed elevators will travel at a speed of 45mph.

The new elevators will break the current elevator speed record held by a skyscraper in Taiwan that travels 38mph.

I'm a retired elevator mechanic trying to imagine working on a machine such as this. It's the difference between a Model A Ford and a Formula 1 race car. HOLY TOLEDO!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, there looking at speed! The hell with speed, I think the safety issue should be under extreme testing for at least 10 years. Wait till the brakes fail, and that SOB shoots out the roof, then will see how excied Hitachi will be with it's fast elevator. Today most elevators run at a pretty good safe speed.. Even the hydrolis ones seem to run a little better too, But that isn't a safe people moving elevator for a sky scraper. That's a damn amusement Ride!

The organization I worked for moved into the south tower of the World Trade Center in 1974. To reach our offices on the 80th, 81st and 82nd floors, we had to first take an express elevator to the 78th floor and then change for a local elevator. When we first moved in, the elevator trip to and from the 78th floor took about 30 seconds, and many people found the trip stomach churning. After numerous complaints they slowed it down so that the trip took 45 seconds. If the Chinese plan on keeping the elevator at 45 mph, they better stock a supply of "barf bags" like in the front pocket on a plane.

Population, the wall and soon an elevator? Those aren't the only records China holds - but I want to be politically correct here - and we all know how important that is in today's very delicate and proper world.

They might want to have waterproof bags in the elevators in case anyone gets sick.
