Mall testing out fast and slow walking lanes

Mall Testing Out Fast And Slow Walking Lanes

You're on a mission at the mall for some cute spring shoes, or maybe to get the wife a last minute anniversary gift before she realizes you forgot. Then this happens - the dreaded slow walker. So what to do?

Well, you could try what this guy did. Or you could just catch the fast lane. That's right. All the sightseers who are there just to dilly dally can stay in their own lane. Meadowhall Mall in the United Kingdom says it's trying out the idea.

"It's the brainchild of a 10-year-old girl. Little Chloe wrote to the Meadowhall shopping mall."

In her letter, Chloe wrote: "I am incredibly disappointed by people walking around your shopping centre - it annoys me so bad I want to scream. You should stop people walking slow as people are in a rush for work and this could cause people being late. It is dangerous because if someone bumped into you that person will fall over."

The shopping center director told Metro, "The Meadowhall team liked Chloe's idea so much that we have decided to trial an overtaking lane for fast walkers on the malls."

A writer for Elle makes the point - sure, double lanes are definitely a good PR boost for Meadowhall Mall, but onto the real questions ...

"Who polices these things?" And "Are there enough Chloe Nash-Lowe's in the world for this sort of system to spread?"

Well, for the safety of those laggers we hope something gets done soon.

Slow walkers? Those are zombies! Why are zombies allowed into the mall? The mall is supposed to be a place of refuge from zombies. Didn't the kid watch 'Dawn of the Dead'?

Anyway a stupid idea, but that's okay because it came from the mind of a child. It's the adults who run the mall who should be pilloried for even thinking twice about the idea of fast and slow walking lanes! People like to vary their walking speeds at malls, so multiple speed lanes would be annoying, to say the least.

What gets me worse that slow walking shoppers is the family of 10 who must stop at the top of the escalator to talk about where they are going next. Now you have log jam of people blocking your only way of getting off the stairs. So you have to be rude and push them out of the way or get trampled by the 20 shoppers behind you. They of course think you are the most pushy person they have ever seen. OOPS.

If you're in a rush to get to work , don't go to the mall first .

First of all i would like to say my concern is why a 10 year old would be so annoyed with mall traffic. What could possibly be her hurry, also it shows everyone that she is very impatient. Also in about 6 years she will be driving how will she handle traffic situations when you have to drive the speef of other cars. She could shop online to avoid all the mall traffic and get free shipping.

They don't even do it in cars, do you really think they will do it in malls?

Nice idea, but it's backwards. The SLOW lanes should be closest to the stores so people can window shop,

Ever heard of window shopping. stores sell buy drawing your attention to what they have in their windows. she is actually hurting business. someday she will be old with aching joints and slow down herself not to mention all she misses in life by constantly hurrying. sometimes you need to stop and smell the roses.

I thought Malls were there so you can enjoy shopping, instead of running around like a fool.

Just watch out for the mall cop with the radar gun standing behind the cell phone kiosk.

How fortunate for Miss Chloe that she doesn't have to deal with messy problems like inability to move at lightning speed, or (heaven forfend) the desire to actually shop rather than just mindlessly buy. She'll learn, with luck before she drives her fellow shoppers crazy with her inconsiderate inability to show a little patience. And by the way, a number of the previous comments are right. The 'slow' lane should be by the shop windows.
