Senator Has Close Call With Moving Train During Speech About Safety

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal was dangerously close to a train as it zipped by during a news conference about train safety - and it was all caught on video.

Anchors at WTNH, one of the local stations that caught the incident on video, said Blumenthal was lucky he didn't get hurt.

'Normally, when you wait for the train, you're looking and watching so you can see what's coming. His back was toward it. He moved away just in the right nick of time.'

WVIT also caught the incident on video, and, by the looks of it, the station's camera operator also might have been standing on the yellow line passengers are supposed to stand behind for safety.

But a writer for Metro says Blumenthal likely sent an important message to his constituents.

'A senator unintentionally demonstrated his point. The force of the Amtrak train was so much it caused him to stumble.'

Blumenthal hasn't commented on the close call.

He almost was eligible for a purple heart, he did come close when he was in Vietnam, Oh, he said he was there. And he got elected, just like the Indian from Mass. J Dagata Sr.

The important message he was sending, is that the voters sent an idiot to Washington. FOR SAFETY, STAND BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE. But everyone knows, that the rules only apply to us, THE LITTLE PEOPLE, and not to the Washington elite.

I am not sure which is more pathetic-the US Senator for not boning up on train safety before giving a speech or the news media for broadcasting it when there are so many other good things that could be broadcasted. Then again in Article 1 of the Constitution the qualifications to be a US Senator are to be at least 30 years old, a citizen for at least the past nine years and a resident of the state representing. Nothing says you have to be educated/smart!

That requirement stands for BOTH parties. I'll believe your god, BHO, is smart when he releases his college transcripts.
