Human remains in truck might be from woman missing since 1979

Police say human remains inside a truck found in a Texas lake might be from a woman who disappeared back in 1979.

KTVT reported that the local sheriff's office took the truck to an impound lot after a city employee saw it in Lake Granbury on Thursday. Workers at the impound lot say they found skeletal remains inside the truck.

According to KDFW, the city employee discovered the truck thanks to low water levels from a drought. Investigators say they have found evidence that suggest the remains are from Helen Holladay.

WFAA reported that the evidence in the truck included a purse, which held an ID that had Holladay's name on it.

The Granbury, Texas sheriff said that based on where the truck was found, it looked like an intentional act. But it's not clear yet if Holladay had driven the truck into the water or someone else was responsible.

KXAS explained that Holladay disappeared after a fight with her husband, Herman. He was named a suspect early in the investigation but was never charged. He died in the '80s.

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, neighbors said that the argument had gotten violent.

At the time, Herman Holladay told police his wife drove off in the family truck. According to local media outlets, the human remains found inside the truck will be sent to a lab so they can be positively identified.
