A Michigan judge did not hold back his feelings during a sentencing hearing Wednesday. A smile and outburst from a convicted killer sent a Michigan judge, as you can see, flying off the handle.
Judge John McBain was filmed saying, "You gutted him like a fish in that apartment. You were relentless. ... I agree with the family. I hope you die in prison as well. You know, if this was a death penalty state, you'd be getting the chair."
He lost his cool immediately after he saw Camia Gamet rolling her eyes and snickering while her victim's family was on the stand.
Fox News reports in March, Gamet was convicted of stabbing her boyfriend, Marcel Hill, to death in 2012. While Gamet stated she was just defending herself, Hill's family testified she had stabbed him previously and had a history of violence.
According to CBS, Gamet was back in court this week to determine if she could be eligible for parole, the possibility of which quickly went out the window after her behavior in the courtroom.
ABC spoke with McBain, who says he doesn't regret what he said.
"Sometimes judges are required to take firm and definite steps to get control of the proceedings. ... to make the person standing in front of them understand the full accountability of their actions," he said.
But this isn't McBain's first time telling someone they're going to die in prison.
A writer for The Huffington Post points out that McBain told another convict last year, "You are going to die in the Department of Corrections. I have no doubt you will appeal for many years, but ultimately you are going to die."
McBain sentenced Gamet to life in prison without parole, the mandatory sentenced for the crime she committed.
