Boy, 12, from Minnesota is riding high on his Guinness Book of World Records attempt

Minn. Boy High-Fives Cancer 'In Dah Face'

A boy from Minnesota is riding high on his Guinness Book of World Records attempt. WCCO reports:

According to WCCO, 'hundreds of Minnesotans set a new world record for the most high-fives in one minute. And it's all for 12-year-old Evan Thornton. He has a rare form of bone cancer.'

According to his GoFundMe campaign, Evan was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer called Ewing's Sarcoma in the summer of 2012 and has undergone multiple rounds of chemotherapy and other treatments.

Evan has pressed on, though, even adopting the phrase 'punch cancer in dah face' as his battle's motto and updating friends and loved ones on his condition through his Facebook page.

'I feel really special that you have been following my page and donating food and money to us so we can pay the bills for all the chemo and liquids.'

On Thursday, Evan high-fived cancer in 'dah face' by attempting to beat the world record of 212 high-fives in 60 seconds. KSTP reports:

"He started on one end, hands out, both sides and went down the line as fast as he could slap, slap, slap, high-five, high-five and when he got to the end, the clock said 52 seconds, 221 hands slapped."

Evan, his family, friends and supporters are waiting for the Guinness Book of World Records to review the results before the record can officially be declared broken.
