Oscar Pistorius' expert witness contradicts police ballistics expert

Oscar Pistorius Contradicted By Own Expert Witness

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) - The prosecutor at the murder trial of Oscar Pistorius, a double-amputee Olympian, cross-examined one of the defense's forensic experts Thursday after the judge overseeing the case warned spectators watching the televised proceedings in an adjacent room for their "unruly" behavior.

Judge Thokozile Masipa said she had been made aware that people watching Pistorius' trial on television feeds in a courtroom next to the main trial room were shouting and cheering at times during the proceedings.

"It is not an entertainment place," Masipa said. She said that if the spectators did not adhere to court protocol in the second room, "security will ensure that they leave."

Because of the huge interest in the trial, court authorities set aside a second, "overflow" room at the Pretoria courthouse for reporters and other spectators to watch the trial proceedings on a big screen. Dozens of reporters are allowed in the main courtroom where the judge sits.

After Masipa's warning, chief prosecutor Gerrie Nel continued to question materials analyst and former policeman Roger Dixon on his findings regarding Pistorius' fatal shooting of girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Feb. 14, 2013. Dixon has offered a different sequence for the shots that killed Steenkamp, contradicting testimony by a police ballistics expert and the pathologist who did the autopsy on Steenkamp's body.

Nel, who also cross-examined Dixon on Wednesday, has criticized him for testifying about pathology, ballistics and other areas in which he acknowledged that he had no expertise.

Dixon testified that Steenkamp's wounds show she may have been in a different position than the prosecution says when she was shot multiple times through a toilet door by Pistorius. The athlete is charged with premeditated murder and is trying to show that he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder behind a toilet cubicle door in his bathroom when he shot her in the pre-dawn hours.

The sequence of gunshots and positioning of Steenkamp when she was hit is critical to the cases of the prosecution and the defense.

The prosecution says Steenkamp was hit in the hip by the first of four shots, and then hit in the arm and head by the third and fourth shots after she collapsed. The second shot missed, according to the prosecution. Dixon has agreed that Steenkamp was hit in the hip by the first shot, but suggested the second shot hit her in the arm as she was reaching to open the toilet door.

Dixon's theory could cast doubt on the prosecution's argument that Steenkamp was in the midst of a fight with Pistorius and trying to hide from him.

They tried to make Zimmerman out to be a wimp who couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag and they are doing it with Pistorious...so vunerable without his legs and so fearful so scared all the time he had no choice but to shoot.....pfft what a crock. He knew who was in that bathroom and he killed her. The end.

I love all these expert "witnesses" . They're only hope for some sort of accuracy would have been a hidden video cam in the bathroom.

Based on the evidence from both sides, this is what happened -

Reeva gave Oscar a Valentine's card as it was Valentines Day and that was the thing to do. It does not negate their volatile relationship.
It was too hot and Oscar couldn't sleep so he opened the bedroom door to the balcony to get some cool air. That's why the neighbors could hear the commotion.
Reeva woke up and they had an argument. She ran into the bathroom and locked the door. That's why the bathroom door was locked in the middle of the night.
Oscar grabbed a bat and tried to beat the door down but couldn't. That's how we got the scaring marks on the door.
She refused to open the door. So he picked up his gun and started shooting at the bathroom door. She screamed. That's why the neighbors heard a woman screaming.
He was blinded with a red hot rage because she wouldn't do as she was told. That's why he did not hear her scream.
He kept on firing and killed her. That's how we got the bullet holes on the door and why there was so much blood on the bathroom floor.
He kicked the door down and found her dead and panicked. That's why he didn't call 911 or for help until he could come up with some lies.
To cover up the crime scene, he didn't wait for the first responders and carried her out of the bathroom. That's why there was blood on the bed cover.
He has had plenty of time since to come up with the imaginery noise and the non-exist intruder story.

That's what happened based on the evidence presented by both sides.

Pistorius claims he fired four rounds "unconsciuosly" in order to avoid premeditated murder, that is a deliberate attempt to kill whomever was in thebathroom. So basically he claims he mentally blacked out because he was under so much fear for his and Reeva's lives. But amazingly he was able to allegedly warn Reevas, get his gun and magazine in the dark, and stalk the alleged intruder to the bathroom, yell at the intruder to get out all without blacking out.

The moment he put his hand on that gun he intended to kill someone especially with the type of bullets he used. I agree "unconsciously" is just a lame excuse.

I'm still going with the prosecution witness (a neighbor) that said she heard arguing, screams and then shots. Don't you look over to see/talk to your lover in bed when you hear an intruder to protect her? She was dressed in the bathroom using her cell. That's not normal in the middle of the night. Sorry. Guilty as charged.

Why is there not more mention of the cricket bat with blood and human hair (Reeva's) on it ?
Oscar's Father will not testify to owning the hollow point bullets, as his son Oscar stated his Father owns them ?
Let's hope this trial isn't based on who has the most money; The Pistorius family is wealthier than the Steenkamp family
