Family of man responsible for Boston Marathon hoax releases apology

Family Of Alleged Boston Marathon Hoaxer Apologizes

The family of the man who caused a security scare at the Boston bombings site Tuesday is apologizing.

Police cleared the area around the finish line after two unattended bags were left in the area of the memorial event. The bags were detonated and 25-year-old Kevin Edson was taken into custody. Edson's mother released a statement Thursday apologizing to the public and victims.

She said Edson and his brother have a history of mental illness, quote, "I have had to constantly fight for twelve years to get them the help they need." And "...such a horrific crime is unfathomable. My daughter and I have run the Boston Marathon six times for charitable organizations."

Edson was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was 19 and a doctor told his lawyer he showed signs of being off his medication. He was arraigned Wednesday and is currently in a state psychiatric hospital for evaluation.

Authorities are increasing security for Monday's race, including having hundreds of officers in civilian clothes and strategically placed video cameras. The finish line will not be closed to the public until the morning of the race.

This is why the need for Mental Hospitals in our Country needs to be re-addressed. Closing Mental Hospitals is what leaves the rest of society in a perilous state of who's going off next. The need for institutionalization is real and until law makers in our Country get that we the public will never truly be safe. Insurance Companies dictate the care of the mentally ill not the doctors so stop blaming the families, they are the care plan managers, moms, dads, sisters, brothers, aunt, uncles, children, friends. It is not their fault, they are not doctors and have you ever tried to force someone to take a medication that didn't want to, a person who doesn't even know they are mentally ill? If you haven't walked in those shoes than don't criticize. It is next to impossible to get these people the help they need, of course after they commit a crime they are just thrown in jail and left to rot so I guess Politicans figures case closed, no, not even close.

i totally understand this mothers effort to get help. i go though the same thing for same problem. many times i have tried but ssi and doctors say he needs to do it yet he is unable to file paper work. education problem. the is ablity to say i can.t out of some fear? either way once he turned 18 he is concidered an adult. and as a father have no right to help. they ssi won't even allow me to help with paper work. in the mean time he does not get help he needs. does not have job and can't function socally. i can't even get him cover under my insurance even if i pay extra. so some day when something horable happens i hope people will understand that it's our system. obama care doesn't help either. maybe someday america can really help those with mind problems and not pretent they do not have have any here.

From the blurb " ...She said her son and his brother..."

What? Why not just say her sons? Plural.

Got a giggle out of it anyway.

What? Why not learn to read before posting?

Got a giggle out of your learning disability.

Due to the closing of so many facilities because of $$$$$ we have people in need who truly need help and a watchful eye. With no place to go to stabilize their disease those with no filters for absurd acts roam. Where do they roam-perhaps next door to you or near other loved ones! Have you seen what this disease does to the family around them? Their strain results in increased medication just in order to cope! So where is the $$$$ savings!!! We have been at war for about 13 years now and are we helping those whose conditions are caused by being exposed to violent situations? Let's stop Nation Building through violence and rebuild the health of our great country.

NBH,
Haven't you noticed? We have been becoming less "great" esp in the past 5 years. All I can see is the worst political arena in Washington that I can remember. It all began in 2000 - when the name-calling of our president became a daily issue in the newspapers and on the news 24-7. Then came 2007, when Mrs Pelosi barred republicans from meetings dealing with spending and budget discussions. Then the passing of ACA - they wouldn't tell us what was in it - Mrs Pelosi told them to pass the damn bill and then we will know. It passed without one republican vote - and look at the disaster, Look at the lies promoting it - Look at the skyrocketing costs (more than double what he had promised it would cost.) Every Congressman and Senator are millionaires. Our President has gone from less than middle class to multi-millionaire status in less than 10 years. And don't say he made it selling his fiction books about himself. That did not make him the $15 million he is estimated to be worth today. No instead of bringing us up to being a better country we have been lowered down to his level - We have disasters that could have been prevented i.e. Benghazi and the"Fast and Furious" debacle that cost us American lives. Where does the responsibility stop these days? certainly not at the White House or the Secretary of State - no one has taken responsibility for these
murders - but we know, don't we? No, this country is not great any more. Debt beyond comprehension - killings in the headlines every day - name calling is the method of relations in Washington today. I carry a gun for my families safety - how about you ? Now do you believe we are great still?

You Sir or Madam are in serious need of medical attention regarding your state of mental health and your grasp on reality. I think the proper authorities need to be made aware you are in possession of fire arms.
BTW the Benghazi myth has been played out along with all your other crackpot assumptions/theories

There are no institutions. The families of mentally ill members fight 24/7 to try to get the help needed. There are private institutions but they start at $10,000 a month and go up. $10,000 a month gets you into a horrible place. There is such a tremendous need for care for the mentally ill and there is no place to go to get the care. Thousands of families live in the fear that their family could be the next ones in the headlines because they were not able to get adequate care for their mentally ill. The state institutions have all been shut down and who has $30,000 a month to spend on a decent facility? Please have compassion for these families, if their child had cancer they could get all the care that child needed but when it is a mental illness there is just nothing out there except tons of medications that render the patient unable to do anything. That doesn't help either.

You are correct. I saw what happened in California when Regan shut down all of the mental hospitals. We were unindated with street people that were insane.

IF anything they should be thankful for being given a test! Law enforcement should be testing other agencies competence by leaving unattended bags and tracking response. At least they know they are on point and ready. The day of the marathon it's too late. The boy is clearly mentally ill and shouldn't be held accountable since no one was injured and it was a faux device.

This is where we should be spending money on mental health instead of trying to get gun rights taken away!! Its the people not the objects they use!! It could be a pencil for goodness sakes!! Lets think about this for once and change our outlook!! If we took care of people who need the mental help they need we wouldn't have 90% of the issues we have in this country!!
