Ultimate Warrior died from cardiovascular disease

PHOENIX (AP) -- Authorities in Phoenix say former pro wrestler The Ultimate Warrior died of cardiovascular disease.

Maricopa County spokeswoman Cari Gerchick says that's the finding from an autopsy conducted Thursday by the county Medical Examiner's Office.

The 54-year-old wrestler's given name was James Hellwig. He collapsed April 8 while walking with his wife to their car at a Scottsdale hotel and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Scottsdale police have said there were no signs of foul play.

The Ultimate Warrior was one of pro wrestling's biggest stars in the late 1980s.

For those who blames steroids for Warriors death....he had cardiovascular disease, you don't need to take steroids for that , he didn't wrestle for years , not only that , there is so many people in the world victims of cardiac arrest and heart attack , those people take steroids too????

Watched a YouTube clip of his early-90's "battle" w/ Randy "Macho Man" Savage yesterday. "Ravishing" Rick Rude interrupts half-way through the match, flexing and posturing outside the ring. It occurred to me that all three of them, relatively young men at the time, are now dead. Not a one of them was an "old man" when he passed. Macho man was not yet sixty. Rude, a mere forty years old (!). Even more jarring, shortly after Savage's demise Hellwig ("the Warrior") lamented in an interview how sobering it was "to hear that at the age of fifty-eight he died of a heart attack". Turns out, sadly and ironically, Hellwig beat him by four years. A testimony to the unsympathetic toll of the pro-wrestling lifestyle on its participants?

dope and steroids take thier toll. only the porn business has more deaths than wrestling. thier biggest cause is suicide!

At the final conclusion it will be cardia arrest 2nd to endocarditis from steroid abuse. It is the price paid for attaining top status in that particular sport. R.I.P. Warrior,,we understand and do not judge !!!

Did he have any dental work done recently? People with this cardiovascular disease can die whenever one has dental work done due to the bacteria gettiginto the blood stream and killing very quickly (as compared to someone without cardiovascular disease)

He did indeed have recent dental work. He had the canines from a large English Mastiff (dog) implanted to make himself look more menacing. You might be right.

Cardiovascular disease is a big category. Could be from the heart muscle, coronary disease or both. They didn't say. I have seen heart attacks not related to drugs as young as 17 years old. Heart attacks are very common after the age of 45, though it's still a good bet his problems were from steroids.

RIP, Warrior. You were one of my favorite wrestlers while growing up in the 80's.
