Putin to Obama: Russia not behind Ukraine protests

MOSCOW (AP) -- The Kremlin says President Vladimir Putin has urged President Barack Obama to discourage the Ukrainian government from using force against protesters in the country's east.

The Kremlin said in a statement following Monday's conversation that the Russian leader rejected the claims of Russian agents' involvement in protests as "speculations based on unreliable information." Putin said the protests vented public anger about the Ukrainian government's reluctance to recognize the interests of Russian speakers in the east.

More than a dozen government offices and police stations have been seized by mobs. The Ukrainian government and the West have accused Russia of staging the protests.

The Ukrainian authorities have pledged to dislodge protesters. The Kremlin said Putin urged Obama to use American influence in Ukraine to prevent the use of force and bloodshed.

If we back out on an agreement with the Ukraine (give up your nukes, we will respect/protect your sovereignty), then our credibility is shot. We will no longer have that option in future negotiations with any other country. We must honor the promises made, even if the current President isn't capable enough to do it himself.

Under an agreement made by Jimmy the Wimp, we gave back the Panama Canal in 1999. We had to honor that agreement, even if, during the time the agreement was made, public opinion didn't support the decision.

Well. It's 2014. The Budapest Memorandum was signed 20 years ago in 1994. Russia only honored the agreement while their interests were still being met . Now it's not convenient for them to honor it anymore, so they are basically disregarding it. If we disregard the agreement, we will be no better than Russia, credibility wise.

This is a very important marker of where the United States stands as a nation of integrity. Will we continue to make promises that we just won't keep? Or will we call upon the courage past generations had to muster up in order to send the right messages out to the world?

I just don't know. Hopefully God starts blessing America a littler harder in the next couple months/years.

The 1994 agreement was non binding and the nukes were the Soviet Union's and not the Ukraines.

This can't be as funny as CNN showing the Ukrainians explaining how they are using trenches and tires to hold off the Russians until help arrives. They are almost as entertaining as the documentaries we watched in grade school.

The US is being turned into a flea market while it imports workers and goods as it's own people are dummed down.

Advice: Quit shopping at Walmart and go back to get your GED.

Both will help.

I don't trust our government. When are never told the real reasons for our foreign policy. A handful of elites are getting us into wars that serve their own financial and political interests. While we cheer a phony liberation of a target country of the day our constitutional rights are stolen from under us.
