Marilyn Monroe earrings auctions for $185,000

Marilyn Monroe Earrings

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A pair of rhinestone earrings wore to a 1955 Hollywood film premiere have sold at auction for $185,000.

Julien's Auctions said in a statement Sunday that the actress wore the jewelry when she attended the opening of "The Rose Tattoo."

Monroe did not appear in the film based on a Tennessee Williams play.

The price included a 20 percent commission for the auction house.

The buyer was a foreign collector. The auction house does not release the names of buyers.

The sale was part of a two-day auction of Hollywood memorabilia Friday and Saturday at Julien's Beverly Hills gallery.

A lighter used by Humphrey Bogart sold for $19,200, and a 1986 Pontiac Firebird owned by David Hasselhoff was purchased for $152,600.

Humphrey Bogart. My favorite actor. CASABLANCA in which he starred is one of the great movies of all time. Cigarette smoking killed him. The lighter is a symbol of damnfoolry.
I was once a heavy smoker. 2 packs a day. I quit when I was 60 years old. I'm now 81, and hanging in there. If I hadn't quit, I would now be 6 feet under. No doubt.

I may have to go back to reading a newspaper: "wore to"? Now if it had said "She wore to", the word is worn. I do make many errors but usually when I am in a hurry but I am not a "professional".

Looks like some people have more money than they know what to do with it. That kind of money would buy a lot of groceries in Appalachia.

Yup it would and then what? Why don't you go to Appalachia and show them how to feed themselves instead of looking for handouts? Every time a schmuck like you goes on a forum to instruct people how they should spend their money it reeks jealousy.

My grandpa has three canceled checks with MM's signature when she was forming her production company in 1956 for $50,000.00 each. They include two hand written notes with instructions on how the money was to be allocated. So much for MM being just another dumb blonde!

First line...."....earrings WORE to..."?! Really? WORE to ? Where is the "journalism" in anything done online these days? Too bad no one writing for AOL was ever taught correct English or, if taught, has abandoned the use of it!

Wouldn't you say proper English rather than correct?

Yes, she is/was/and will always be the most beautiful feminine female ever. No woman could top her for beauty, yes, and brains....a gorgeous female and down to earth. She is missed, still, by everyone. Patty
