Wake Forest hires Danny Manning from Tulsa

Danny Manning To Wake Forest

Danny Manning is leaving Tulsa to take over as Wake Forest's basketball coach.

Athletic director Ron Wellman announced Manning's hiring on Friday.

The school says it will hold a news conference next week on its campus in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Both Wellman - who also chairs the NCAA tournament selection committee - and Manning are in North Texas for the Final Four.

Manning attended high school in nearby Greensboro before becoming an All-American at Kansas, leading the Jayhawks to the 1988 national championship and playing 15 years in the NBA.

He was 38-29 with two postseason berths in two seasons at Tulsa.

His hiring ends Wake Forest's two-week search for a replacement for Jeff Bzdelik, who resigned under intense public pressure following four mostly unremarkable seasons.

Congratulations Danny! Are you taking Coach Ballard with you? I am a Baker University alum, and we really appreciated Ballard's time at Baker.

Meh ! This is no big deal one way or the other.

We'll have to wait and see if he will do a "terrific" job.

Danny rejected Page HS in his last year where I met Dean Smith hoping to get him for UNC. Even Dean hints that it was a package deal because Kansas fired Ed manning when Danny graduated. Danny does not want to have anything to do with Greensboro or Page HS. I am very surprised he is coming back to the area. It is just another baby step so he can get tp the NBA. We grew up friends and played ball together after school. Today he will not even write back to me or call. BIG HEAD! I own the world's largest collection of Manning cards, autographs and memorabila. I used to own a sports card store and bought a lot off eBay as well. STOP by Danny and I will be happy to give you the 25 year old collection. They still put out cards on hum not because he was a good NBA player but because of the Jayhawks. We all know he turned down 25 million to play for Atlanta and he does not need the money. Retire and enjoy going out on top as far as you will make it my old friend so you will not become another Ed Manning. This is stated with all lrespect towards the now deceased Ed Manning. Too many wanna be's like Phil Jackson and ypou Danny are NO Phil Jackson or never will be! Go Page HS and UNC!

Hey terd brain? I wonder how Phil got his start? Think he just fell out of NBA heaven and everything just happened naturally? Phil had to start somewhere to Einstein. 2nd? Maybe there was more than meets the eye with that Atlanta deal, ever think of that moron? Of course not. You came on here babbling a bunch of opinionated BS!!! Danny earned his wings. What have you done besides make useless posts with the intelligence of a dead fly. Maybe Manning wanted to be a HC. So Manning turned down a $25 MILLION contract. Unlike you? He was offered one. I don't see Wall Mart even giving you a 25 CENT raise. Your ignorance in stereotyping, shows your true ignorance. Mannings history shows his ability to step up to the plate, and deliver. Shame you never even got up to bat eh?
