Volcano spews six mile ash cloud over Ecuador

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) - Ecuador's Tungurahua volcano has spewed a 6-mile (10-kilometer) column of ash after a powerful, five-minute explosion that shot pyroclastic material onto its northern and northwestern flanks.

Ecuador's geophysics institute said Friday's blast occurred at 6:10 p.m. local time and was followed by a second, four-minute explosion and five lesser tremors.

The 16,480-foot (5,023-meter) volcano, nearly 90 miles (140 kilometers) south of Quito, revived on Feb. 1, with eruptions that affected a third of Ecuador's provinces and temporarily closed a regional airport.

Tungurahua has been erupting sporadically since 1999. In 2006, a pyroclastic cloud killed four people and left two missing.

volcanos have a lot to do with our weather, back in the 1800s a volcano went off in the Philippines, and caused a little ice age, and you know about the Greenland volcano caused the drought and high tem. the next year, well three volcanos blew off in Indonesia, Jan. 13, Feb.1, and Feb. 13, 2014 causing the three cold snaps, and our winter snow, now a volcano blew march 3 in Ecuador on our side, I hope this will counter act the three that went off in Indonesia?

Volcanoes have an effect in two ways, the plumes shade the Earth making it cooler and the tiny airborn particles make it easier for rain drops to form.

Glad it's not in Yellowstone, we would've felt that eruption on the other side of the country.

there have always been volcanos, earthquakes, storms, wars, etc. the bible says when you see them happening all together, increasing in force, look up, redemption draws close. i dont know about you, but i've started looking up a lot.

Yes, I agree. It is signs of the times, and yet people in this world are so blind to all that is happening and the truth of what is to come, that they will miss the rapture! So sad that people have to joke about these natural happenings, but for the true Christian, this just strengthens their faith! Accepting Jesus Christ as Saviour is the only way to escape it all!

In order for plants to grow they need three main elements: Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium.
They get the nitrogen from the air but the Phos. and Potas. come from the soil. Crop ag plants wont produce unless they have these soil elements. In time these elements are depleted. Without ag produce, we starve.
Amazing, volcanoes eject huge quantaties of these two elements. Insome respects ultimately the God's Earth is feeding us.

Maybe Dear Leader could use his trusty pen to make volcanic eruptions illegal!
