April Fools' prank lands woman in jail

April Fools' Day Prank Lands South Carolina Woman in Jail

A woman has been arrested after authorities said she falsely reporting a shooting at a Spartanburg school on April Fools' Day.

Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright says more than a dozen of his deputies responded to Virginia College on Tuesday morning. Wright says a woman had called 911, saying she got a text from her mother who reported that shots had been fired at the campus and that she was hiding.

When the mother didn't respond to another message, Wright says the daughter called 911.

Deputies arrived and found no shooting in progress. Wright says 54-year-old Angela Timmons admitted that she had mentioned the shooting as a prank.

Timmons is a Virginia College employee. She was jailed Tuesday on a charge of disturbing schools, and online records listed no attorney for her.

Stupid requires no actions--- well maybe pitty.. we have all been a bit off or on occasion stupid... but really--- this is not at all funny-- and in no way does it work as an April 1st Prank.. here's a prank.. your ability to reason and your judgement are in trouble... You are to be fired or at least sent to some mental health process.. clearly you need it... Death, murder and mayham are not funny folks.. in no way is this or should it be the norm--- are we becoming that ill minded--- stop the violance and the voices... and open your hearts to being better beings. try kindness, respect... love.. any of those might help extend the earth and its people.. but stop the bloody horror... Gobshites..

How could anyone put that kind of fear in their child. I bet that girl was scared to death. Also I agree, there was no humor in doing this, It was a disgrace to all whom had to experience this type of an event with their loved one they had to bury. She worked in financial? She then should have been smarter than that of what she did. She should lose her job, have to serve time, and pay a fine that would make her think twice about ever doing something so careless and stupid again.

She couldn't think of something else? It's not funny lady. Shootings occur much too often. Maybe she should have called her daughter and told her just just was diagnosed with terminal cancer. That would have produced the same scared reaction for her daughter and it would not have involved the police! Well, at least I hope it wouldn't!

I am the director of security at a small community college and can not believe the stupidity of this prank. I can assure you that had a 911 call or if a police response unit had arrived on campus, it would have shut us down for the rest of the week.

The search alone would have consumed most of the day and at exam time literally halted them. Next you have the more sensitive staff and students who become depressed or fearful over the imagined shooter and the cost of providing counselors to them, not an inexpensive precaution.

This women has essentially stolen money from all the students affected by the police and security reaction to this "prank". Perhaps she should be made to pay for all the missed class time associated with responding to her sense of humor.
