In week, Mexico finds 370 abandoned child migrants

Un PolicĂa

MEXICO CITY (AP) - Mexican officials said Saturday that in one week they found 370 migrant children who had apparently been abandoned by traffickers paid to take them to the United States.

The children were rescued in 14 Mexican states between March 17 and 24, and the youngest was 9 years old, the National Migration Institute said in a statement, adding that 163 of the children under 18 were found traveling alone.

Most migrants heading through Mexico to the United States come from Central America. They face the threat of accidents, robbery, rape or being forcibly recruited by criminal gangs along the way.

The institute said the children told officials the human traffickers abandoned them after being paid between $3,000 and $5,000. Sometimes migrants make the journey to the United States, then once established pay traffickers to bring their children north.

It said most of the children showed signs of extreme fatigue, dehydration and foot injuries, along with disorientation at being abandoned at unknown, often dangerous, locations.

Father Heyman Vazquez, director of a refuge for migrants in Huixtla, Chiapas, said he is seeing more and more children making the dangerous trek across Mexico in hopes of reaching the United States.

"Every day more minors make the trip, often entire families with babies, but at other times children as young as 6 accompanied by other children only a bit older than they are," Vazquez told The Associated Press.

I want to know where the parents of these children are?? How could you allow your children to be taken over the border and not know where they are or if they are even still alive. As for the traffickers, may they rot.

Those parents are trapped in a cycle of poverty in a dysfunctional country. They were trying to give their children a better life.

Try empathy.

Everyone knows Mexico is a mess.

The issue is these are children being sent to USA to be saved from all of that and they were abandoned.

It's awful.

If the Children are in Chiapas Mexico they are still a thousand miles from the US border and we must not make that our problem I feel for he children but the fact that they are there is Mexico enabling the transit of the coyotes that are exploiting this outrage. Mexico could materially reduce the problem if they would intervene. Mexico has a problem with poverty and they are happy to export thier underserved poor. The last time I checked Mexicos minimum wage was $3.25 a day for a twelve hour work day. does anybody wonder why the poor mestiso wants to come to the states. If an illegal immigrant makes 15 dollars a day here he feels rich. Understand that the onl cure is too force the Mexican government to raise the standard of living and then the underserved will have no reason to leave the home they have

Why are you assuming that the problem is just in Mexico, there are many other central and So.Amer. illegals coming here through Mexico.

Lets just hope we can find the Parents and send them back to be prosecuted for child abuse, abandonment and negligence.
