Colbert Report Tweet Causes Twitter Firestorm

#CancelColbert Trends On Twitter
Looks like even some of the most popular comedians can't get away with every joke. Stephen Colbert is now defending himself over claims of racism after the hashtag #CancelColbert began trending on Twitter. The call to end his show was sparked after a joke he made was posted to twitter.

The joke read: "I am willing to show #Asian community I care by introducing the Ching-Chong Ding-Dong Foundation for Sensitivity to Orientals or Whatever."

The tweet started a firestorm on the social network as many found it insensitive. It was in response to a controversy over the Redskins team which is starting a charity for Native American groups.

In response, The Colbert Show deleted the tweet and said Stephen did not write it.

But we couldn't expect Colbert himself to stay quiet over the matter - he even took part in the trending hashtag and responded, tweeting, "#CancelColbert - I agree! Just saw @Colbert Report tweet. I share your rage."

No matter how famous or funny you are - it never hurts to read a tweet before you send IT out to the Internet for the world to see and get offended.

Actor Rainn Wilson - popularly known as Dwight Schrute on The Office - crossed a line when he tweeted a date rape joke, which read "If I were ever date raped I would want it to be to 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zeppelin."

And comedian Gilbert Gottfried is famous for his offensive tweeting - which include a 9/11 joke just three weeks after the tragedy happened. And he was actually fired from one job for several jokes he tweeted about the tsunami that hit Japan in 2011.

Freedom of Speech... where did you go? You sure aren't in America anymore. Jokes are jokes. Get over it America. Surely we aren't so thin-skinned that every joke offends somebody!

Tired of the whining, whining, whining. Put on your Big Boy pants...oops, was that offensive to Big Boys? or to people who wear pants?

People forgot all about that freedom of speech when someone is against gay marriage. Funny how its only free if its what you believe.

Liberals are gender neutral. Even the liberal men wear skirts today.

Wow, how quick everyone is to come to the aid to any nationality but WHITE! First look in the mirror, you are NOT white unless you are an albino. We are BEIGE, not white, (not convinved, go to the mirror put a piece if white computer paper next to your face, does it match, NO!).
I have been called, cracker, (asian first caled me that in the 60's) hillbilly, casper, whitey, slave trader, mountain dweller, KKK member, white liberal, (ever heard of a black, asian, mongolian or korean liberal, no I think not) white trash and the list could go on and on.
Look on the internet, (besides those staunch, over the top, NOT MY supported groups of people of any race that hate another race just beccause of thier color or nationality). Can you find one non -white/beige person showing outrage on the internet, (I have heard and read many people preaching the religion of God and in the same speech speak out to protect one race and not another, God did NOT teach that form of love and how you treat all people. I would love to have the web sites, prior to this note that prove me wrong. I am 3/4 amerian indian, this was my nation first. In conclusion, I do not watch Colbert but if he is allowed to be taunted, persecuted and so on because of his color, why does his comment bring such outrage?

There are plenty of things in this world to be outraged about--this is not one of them. By the way, do you know how Chinese name their children?----- They go in the kitchen and throw their pots and woks in the air --- ping-ching-chong --- that joke was told to me by a Dr. Chin.

Anerican humor is one of the things that made our country great. To laugh at ourselves and jab someone for whatever 'cause' turned many a situation into a comedy which could have been a catastrophe. Who died and made some politician 'god' to make 'political correctness' one of the laws of the land? Laughter is a great gift and good for the soul. Keep it alive and take the time to make fun of yourself along with becoming a bigger person for doing so. Somebody once said
Laugh and the world laughs with you...cry and you cry alone.

A joke is a joke people. I'm more than sure if Colbert REALLY wanted to offend a race, culture, or demographic he would and it would cause much more damage and outrage than this.

Try going to a comedy show in which a Black comedian is speaking to an all Black audience - Russell Simmons' Def Jam with Martin Lawrence from some 20 years ago was the advent of such vitriolic and racist rantings, pointed mostly against Whites but which leaves almost no one out. Then again, it's either comedy or it's not - shades of Lenny Bruce !
