Ravens' Rice indicted on aggravated assault charge

Rice Indicted For Aggravated Assault

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on a charge he assaulted his fiancee in an elevator at casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

Rice had been charged with simple assault after police said he knocked out Janay Palmer on Feb. 15 at the Revel Casino. But a grand jury indicted him Thursday on a more serious count of aggravated assault. It carries a three-to-five-year sentence.

Palmer also had been charged with simple assault. Prosecutors say that complaint was dismissed.

The couple lives in the Baltimore suburb of Reistertown.

Palmer's attorney has said he's certain no crime was committed. Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, says Rice denies the charge and that the couple are happy and in counseling.

The Ravens issued a statement saying "we know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident."

lmao the ravens should have orange jumpsuits that say DOC on the back. they house all the criminals. that murderer ray lewis (aquitted doesnt mean innocent) now its the thug ray rice himself. i guess after a season of a horrible running game he resorted to beating his future wife. apparently he did a better job doing that than running the ball. love when those criminal ravens make the headlines. way to go ray rice i hope this time they throw you behind bars.

Bring back airtight conditional contracts with strict morality clauses in addition to seasonal mandatory workshops on Integrity; social graces; sexual harassment, sex crimes, criminal activity, abuse (substance, physical and emotional); in-between and/or during training for the life of the contract. And please remember to include a course on "groupies" and overall unacceptable behavior. Decrease the salary and the shallow pomp and circumstance packaged with proper health insurance benefits and realistic sports compensation. That would take the "steam" out of athletic egos and hopefully replace what's needed----a genuine heart for the game. Athletes (particularly new generation) need to appreciate that being successful in sports isn't a license to live stupidly! There was a time when sports figures wore uniformed jackets and spoke intelligently and education was stressed heavily as a condition to remain on the team (if in college and H.S.). The media, sponsors and scouts indirectly (and directly) compromised these values. Some men are taught self respect and value and never to hit women. One can always walk away.... regardless of how much the male may feel "needled" by the female. Walk away! Still bring back Morality Clauses and stop putting them on pedestals.

If you watched the video of the elevator you'd realize the seriousness of it. He knocked her da f' out. Big time. He got out of the elevator and dragged her out and lay her down on the ground face first. She was clearly knocked out

what NO crime. what does he have to do kill her? just another angry athlete(not making enough), getting a bye on his bad behavior. all too often no accountability.

There may be more to him than this one incident but this one incident says A LOT about what he is made of.

Lots of racial slurs being toss around on here....yeesh. I think the main issue is you have guys who are poor one minute, then instant millionaires the next. Few know how to handle that, unless you had a strong parental figure giving you that guidance and support throughout your life.

Rice sponsors a anti-bullying program in Baltimore. I can think of no larger bully than a man beating on a woman, regardless of the circumstances.

Believe the grand jury (prosecutor) indicted at a higher level to ensure a plea bargain can be worked out and Rice not serve a day in jail for beating this woman. I also will wager that this trial, if it comes to that, will not take place until after the NFL 2014 season so Rice can participate for the Ravens. Lawyers will delay, delay, delay, or they will in fact ask for a continuance until after the season.
