Ravens' Rice indicted on aggravated assault charge

Rice Indicted For Aggravated Assault

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on a charge he assaulted his fiancee in an elevator at casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

Rice had been charged with simple assault after police said he knocked out Janay Palmer on Feb. 15 at the Revel Casino. But a grand jury indicted him Thursday on a more serious count of aggravated assault. It carries a three-to-five-year sentence.

Palmer also had been charged with simple assault. Prosecutors say that complaint was dismissed.

The couple lives in the Baltimore suburb of Reistertown.

Palmer's attorney has said he's certain no crime was committed. Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, says Rice denies the charge and that the couple are happy and in counseling.

The Ravens issued a statement saying "we know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident."

They are happy - and in counseling. WOW - that really tells the story. And using the term "fiancee" is really laughable.

A friend of mine says that these pro athletes at thugs. Not all but some. Ray Rice has shown no respect for woman and the mother of their child. If she is staying with him, she is making a mistakel He has anger issues which needs to be addressed. She should realize that this is not going to end here. They will part eventually if they are smart.

It's not anger. It's the culture. They see their mothers and grandmothers being abused and abandoned and they see their fathers are non existent in their lives. The black culture glorifies the abuse and abandonment of women in their rap songs. It's what they have learned and they pass it down.

WTH? It is anger. There's no abandonment and abuse in other races? If you think there is not, you are truly mistaken AND NEED TO GET INFORMED -- IMMEDIATELY.. These types of situations happen in ALL RACES. No, this is not what WE LEARN AND PASS DOWN. Rap music is not the "do all and be-all" of who we are as a people; nor is what is CHOSEN to be shown on media. Each individual is responsible is for their own actions. My father raised my FIVE brothers not to abuse women. I have raised my TWO sons likewise. Guess what? None of brothers did (all now deceased) and my sons don't. Additionally, before you presume, both of my sons DID NOT have children out of wedlock OR ANY abortions before they got married. In fact, they both married women who had children and NEITHER ONE OF MY SONS HAVE NEVER BEEN TO JAIL OR ON DRUGS. By the way, my brothers? Same thing! Flip side - I was a teenage mother, however, I COMPLETED MY EDUCATION, INCLUDING AN ADVANCED DEGREE. My husband married me with two children and we have successful raised a family of six without the issues you broadly paint with your racial brush. Please don't do that. It is not fair nor is it correct.

Mortgage Ln Lady....73% of black households have no father, 31% Hispanic households have no father, 22% white households have no father. So yes, abandonment does exist in other races, but really? That doesn't sound like a broadly painted racial brush to me.

Not good that the men and women of the last couple of generations have adopted the physically aggressive lifestyle of the most primitive among us. Instead of rising up in culture our culture is dumbing down.

Good post. Time to get out of the PIMP/HOE relationship mentality.

It's hard to rise above it because we perpetuate it by handing out free paychecks for having 4 or 5 kids with 4 or 5 fathers. It's the way of life for the black culture but they don't do anything about it. The mothers and grandmothers did it. The women suffer from learned helplessness. They see it and do it too. The men have 4 or 5 kids with different mothers and don't stick around. They learned that within their culture too. Abandonment and abuse. It's all learned by seeing what occurs in the culture. And we make it easy for them. We hand out free paychecks and reward their negative behavior instead of holding them accountable. There are no consequences for them. So they keep doing it and then blame someone else for their plight. It' s so easy to cry racism and blame someone else instead of fixing the problems within your own culture.

The usual domestic violence denial from Palmer. It's even stronger as she is not yet married to Rice as admitting to this will deny her the ring and access to money and a life in the burbs. This is the reason why n some States these have become police matters removing the witness responsibility from the victim and less likely to become a waste of taxpayers money when the victom withdraws the accusation after receiving "flowers" from the domestic partner and attacker. These are the same ones who fault the police when their accusations go unheeded or the situation ends in tragedy.

lmao the ravens should have orange jumpsuits that say DOC on the back. they house all the criminals. that murderer ray lewis (aquitted doesnt mean innocent) now its the thug ray rice himself. i guess after a season of a horrible running game he resorted to beating his future wife. apparently he did a better job doing that than running the ball. love when those criminal ravens make the headlines. way to go ray rice i hope this time they throw you behind bars.
