Ravens' Rice indicted on aggravated assault charge

Rice Indicted For Aggravated Assault

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) -- Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice has been indicted on a charge he assaulted his fiancee in an elevator at casino in Atlantic City, N.J.

Rice had been charged with simple assault after police said he knocked out Janay Palmer on Feb. 15 at the Revel Casino. But a grand jury indicted him Thursday on a more serious count of aggravated assault. It carries a three-to-five-year sentence.

Palmer also had been charged with simple assault. Prosecutors say that complaint was dismissed.

The couple lives in the Baltimore suburb of Reistertown.

Palmer's attorney has said he's certain no crime was committed. Rice's attorney, Michael Diamondstein, says Rice denies the charge and that the couple are happy and in counseling.

The Ravens issued a statement saying "we know there is more to Ray Rice than this one incident."

Not good that the men and women of the last couple of generations have adopted the physically aggressive lifestyle of the most primitive among us. Instead of rising up in culture our culture is dumbing down.

Good post. Time to get out of the PIMP/HOE relationship mentality.

It's hard to rise above it because we perpetuate it by handing out free paychecks for having 4 or 5 kids with 4 or 5 fathers. It's the way of life for the black culture but they don't do anything about it. The mothers and grandmothers did it. The women suffer from learned helplessness. They see it and do it too. The men have 4 or 5 kids with different mothers and don't stick around. They learned that within their culture too. Abandonment and abuse. It's all learned by seeing what occurs in the culture. And we make it easy for them. We hand out free paychecks and reward their negative behavior instead of holding them accountable. There are no consequences for them. So they keep doing it and then blame someone else for their plight. It' s so easy to cry racism and blame someone else instead of fixing the problems within your own culture.

Lots of racial slurs being toss around on here....yeesh. I think the main issue is you have guys who are poor one minute, then instant millionaires the next. Few know how to handle that, unless you had a strong parental figure giving you that guidance and support throughout your life.

At the end of the day, regardless of what happens, he brought it on himself.

I don't care if she was hitting him first. He is twice as big, and probably 10 times stronger. He could have restrained her easily without having to slug her. No one said she had a gun. What a coward.

Race, money, coming from a poor family, all of that is a lot of bull. Anyone else would have already been locked up on a domestic violence charge. Sounds like this JERK has a lot of anger issues, and I guess they'll wait till he kills this girl before they ever really do anything.

There are cameras everywhere in the casinos, including the elevators. If he did this, they have proof and he won't be able to talk his way out of it. I don't care where he came from, how much money he has, who he plays for or what color he is. If he hit a woman he needs to pay for the crime and to hit her hard enough to knock her out? These athletes need to realize that they can't do whatever they please and get away with it.

I agree he should be held accountable for his action but I am sure this is not the first time this has happen but as a woman you have to decide if the fame is worth your life. Everyone want to blame the person committing the abuse but at any point this young woman could walk away. It has nothing to do with race and not having money, it has to do with being a "MAN" and being respectful of the person you are with and most of all having respect for yourself. We all have free will. We want to kick a person when he or she is down but we need to pray for them and pull back the stone.
