Town pays Ted Nugent NOT to perform

A Texas town is taking back it's 4th of July and and giving a good chunk of money to keep one performer from even showing up. Longview city is standing by its decision to cut ties with rocker Ted Nugent, who was scheduled to be the headline performer at the city's holiday celebration. The city paid out about $16 thousand last month to end contract negotiations with Nugent, according to the Longview News-Journal. The town dubbed him inappropriate for the family oriented occasion after he backed gubernatorial candidate Greg Abbott. But that wasn't the only factor. Nugent came under fire after he called President Obama a "subhuman mongrel" while campaigning with Abbott earlier this year. A community activist, Quantell X, and KRIV correspondent, Matt Patrick, discussed differing views on the matter. Here's what they had to say: Quanell: "This man was very racist in using that Klu Klux Klan language and he said other things that are very offensive towards African Americans. Pay the man the money because a fool in the administration invited him who is probably just as racist as Ted Nugent is." Patrick: "The political correctness cost the taxpayers of Longview $16,250. I would say the winner is Ted Nugent and he got the money and didn't have to show up." But, according to several reports, the money isn't coming from taxpayers'' pockets - but from the activity budget of Maude Cobb - the convention center set to hold the Independence Day performance. No word yet on who will be replacing Nugent.
