Pentagon spends $2.5 million in flight 370 search

BY PAULINE JELINEK
ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Pentagon says it has spent $2.5 million to help in the search for the missing Malaysian Airlines jet.

The Defense Department has been flying high-tech surveillance planes to assist in the effort. The spending also includes operating costs for ships that have assisted in the search, which has stretched across the South China Sea and into the Indian Ocean.

A Navy P-8 Poseidon plane has been searching the Indian Ocean region where satellite imagery showed objects that may be from the plane. A P-3 Orion didn't fly Friday but is expected to rejoin the search Saturday.

A Pentagon spokesman says $4 million has been budgeted, and that amount could last into early April depending on the number of flying hours and whether other equipment is needed.

Gee I thought we didn't have enough money at one time to keep the park services open, & had to block the Veterans Memorial from visitors.
All of a sudden we have 4 million to budget on a missing plane ?
And we're going to give the Ukraine 1 billion dollars? I guess if you live here your out of luck.

A billion bucks would send every kid to college for the next ten years, or more... and, help our economy.
Billion bucks to Ukraine? For what?

To try to bribe Ukraine into accepting a Russia accomodation that would allow the president to remove some of the egg from his face.

We all would want to be "searched" for , or our loved one's to be... but the simple fact is it's time to call of the search, or at least scale it way back. After 2 weeks the simple fact is there's little hope to find anyone alive.

16,400 children starve to death each day worldwide. Imagine how many lives could be saved by spending some of the millions on people that are still living.

I bet that is more than China is spending and they are complaining about us taking so long to find their people. The Chinese are like little kids that haven't learned the lesson that you get what you pay for. They would rather get it for free by stealing.

if you get lost in the mountains, at sea, put out a fire...somebody wants to charge you...let them send the bill to the AIRLINE.

I fnd it hard to believe that we have only spent that much, in man hours/salary, and use of ships, planes, fuel, etc.
I would think it would be ten times that much by now.

Does the pentagon want a metal, they are used to spending large amounts of our money. take care of our veterans , that would be a good cause.

Its difficult to take care of our troops the way they should be with all the cuts, filibusters and flat out NO's from Congress.
