After 7 years, White House pastry chef leaves his post

After 7 Years, White House Pastry Chef Leaves His Post

It's the kind of exit you might call 'bittersweet.' The White House's top pastry chef has announced he's leaving his post.

After seven years on the job in Washington D.C. 60-year-old Bill Yosses says he's hanging up his apron and moving up the coast to New York.

According to the New York Daily News, there he will join his husband, whom he married in 2011, while dedicating "his efforts to promoting healthy eating with a 'group and foundation of like-minded creative people.'"

The commander-in-chef, if you will, was first hired by then-First Lady Laura Bush in 2007, but stayed on under the Obama Presidency.

In a statement First Lady Michelle Obama called his departure "incredibly sad," adding she was "grateful to him for his outstanding work, not just as the White House pastry chef, producing the most delectable creations ... but also as a key partner helping us get the White House kitchen garden off the ground."

And despite her push toward more healthy foods, it seems those warm feelings were mutual. Quoted by The New York Times, he said of the first lady, "definitely an inspiring boss, a combination of spontaneity and seriousness." He also noted that though he had turned to healthier fare during his time with the Obamas, he doesn't 'want to demonize cream, butter, sugar and eggs.'

Yosses was reportedly dubbed "The Crustmaster" by President Obama for his pies. No replacement has yet been named.

Nothing like a big dish of hatred, served with a side of homophobia, first thing in the morning! Thanks, all you bigoted and woefully misinformed and uneducated morons!

Wow..SOME rather "crusty" replies, eh?

I especially like Karen and Pitts ones! Having worked in the construction trade for almost a century
it reminds me of what some of my crews would have said upon hearing this news!

Well Done!!

Economy like we have and the taxpayers are paying someone to make cake and cookie houses? Seriously? I'd say that's a major waste of very limited resources! And what about all those "secretaries" that Mrs O has to open and answer her mail? Another major waste. She should be doing that herself. Why do they even have a full-time kitchen staff? She should be cooking her own meals for her own family, and they can hire a caterer for large dinners, for crying out loud.

Hired by Laura Bush and now HE is going home to HIS HUSBAND. Maybe many Republicans are a lot more tolerant than some of you accuse us of being. The only thing that mattered was the way he ran his kitchen and if his treats were tasty.

I'm sure your'e right - there ARE many tolerant Republicans. Unfortunately they are electing non tolerant ones who would like to disqualify this man's marriage based on his sexuality. We also have no idea if Mrs. Bush KNEW he was gay when she hired him and we DO know that he wasn't married when she did - so we really can't speculate on how tolerant or not the Bushes were of a gay pastry chef.

We have now to get used to it. Here is what confused me today: According to the New York Daily News, "there he will join his husband, whom he married in 2011." This caught me off guard. I forgot that same sex marriage is now common.

Cream, butter, sugar, and eggs. Yum. If I had the money I'd hire him as my pastry chef.

Julia Child always said you couldn't use too much butter and she was in her 90s when she died.
