L'Wren Scott, Mick Jagger's girlfriend, found dead in N.Y.C.

NEW YORK (AP) -- L'Wren Scott, a fashion designer and celebrity stylist who was Mick Jagger's girlfriend, was found dead in Manhattan of a possible suicide, a law enforcement official said Monday.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the victim's next of kin had not yet been notified.

The official said Scott's assistant found her hanging from a doorknob at 10 a.m. Monday. The official said no note was found and there was no sign of foul play.

A spokeswoman for Mick Jagger says the singer was "completely shocked and devastated by the news." The pair had been dating since 2001.

Scott, who was adopted by Mormon parents and raised in Roy, Utah, had her own fashion label popular with celebrities. She was a fixture on Jagger's arm and, at around 6-foot-3, towered over her famous boyfriend.

She founded her high-end label in 2006 and recently created a more affordable line of clothes with Banana Republic.

On the red carpet, she has dressed stars like Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Angelina Jolie.

"This is a horrible and tragic loss," said Madonna. "I'm so upset. I loved L'Wren's work and she was always so generous with me."

Just last month Scott canceled her London Fashion Week show, due to reported production delays.

Makeup artist Bobbi Brown collaborated with Scott last month on a cosmetics line called the Bobbi Brown x L'Wren Scott Collection.

"I am devastated by the tragic news about L'Wren," Brown said on her website. "She was a visionary designer who I very much enjoyed working with, but she was also smart and kind. My thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to her loved ones during this very sad time."

Associated Press Writers Mesfin Fekadu and Jocelyn Noveck contributed to this report.

This is a tragic event. I know it states, no sign of foul play, but my LE experience has me doubting that. In either case this is tragic, but I hope the investigation doesn't stop prematurely due to, 'what it seems to be'... RIP Ms. Scott

No matter how bleak life seems at a certain time there is no reason for suicide. Life always turns around. 20 years ago a friend tried to commit suicide and fortunately was not successful. Today
this person is very happily married and enjoys every minute of life. This person would had missed a lot.

You can't deal with depression by saying "you have everything to live for." It has nothing to do with your success or circumstances; it's mental illness.

To all who are asking how she could hang herself from a doorknob, here's a scenario.....Perhaps her plan was to take a drug and render herself unconscious, she was already tied to the doorknob, she'd fall over and hang herself. She would be out of it and not able to save herself if she had a change of heart. Will have to wait for autopsy results.

Who knows what led her to take her own life, but an entertainment industry loaded with vice and immorality and the constant negative criticism of religion and family values, she likely found little spiritual support from all the beautiful people around her. May she rest in peace and may we all help to restore our sprituality and sense of community and love a and promotion of family and god.

Could have been an accident. It's more common than you think.

IMHO suicide is the ultimate in making a bad decision unless perhaps you are terminally ill. Every life can have meaning and if it doesn't, make a change. I'm sorry for the ones she left behind that cared about her.

I think they need to confirm the doorknob thing and tell the truth,as it will come out sooner or later.
