Former police chief eats paper in court

Former Police Chief Eats Paper in Court
A former police chief testifying in court Friday decided to take a bite out of evidence - literally.

'That's the evidence he's eating right there. The former police chief is now the head of Miami Crime Stoppers, and he ate parts of evidence rather than reveal an anonymous tipster,' 'Fox & Friends' reported.

After he left court, Richard Masten told reporters what went into his not-so-appetizing decision.

'I was afraid that I was going to be taken into custody, and that would be part of the property and there it goes. So I had a little lunch.'

'That lunch contained details about the tip and tipster that had called Crime Stoppers.'

'I represent Crime Stoppers' promise to our tipsters that we will never give up information about them in any shape, any form.'

"Good Morning America" reports the judge is giving Masten until Thursday to change his mind about not sharing evidence. If he doesn't, he'll be sent to jail for two weeks for contempt of court.

If he goes to jail, Masten told WTVJ: 'I'll bring a toothbrush and some pajamas in case I do.'

It is sad when a person had a responsibility with the job he does and can NOT reveal certain things.....but a judge can FORCE him either to abuse and force him to reveal what he knows, regardless.....OR BE HELD IN CONTEMPT. I was told that IF I did NOT sign an agreement (which I had refused to sign) that I would also be held in CONTEMPT as well. JUDGES HAVE TOO MUCH POWER. JUSTICE IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THIS.

Lazy reporting. Why was the court wanting information on the guy's source? Was there a legit reason? Or not? What was the nature of the crime being investigated.

We'll never know with shallow bits of nothingness like this gawd-awful excuse for "news."

There was probably some scumbag's defense attorney demanding to know who the tipster was so that pressure could be put on that person or any other potential witnesses.

The Law says you have a right to face your accuser, but I'm not sure that extends to a "tipster" who simply points in a certain direction.

I suspect his man "did the right thing" by protecting a source, the same thing reporters do all the time. And being part of a "Crime Stoppers" media outlet, he can probably claim the same rights as a reporter.

crimestoppers is supposed to be totally anonymous... so, whatever anybody says about this guy, he's honorable and his word is bond....and shame on that judge for not caring if the tipster life or family is put at risk

Is the judge stupid or just totally liberal - duh. How does he expect ANY program with promises to be trusted if he breaks the anonymous portion of the promise such as Crime Stoppers.

Good for him many judges, prosecutors break judicial, constitutional laws all the time, and should go to jail themselves.

GOOD FOR YOU SIR... If the tipster is top they will be anonymous- THEN THEY SHOULDN'T GET TO EXPOSE THEIR IDENTITY! My goodness... That could cause them to be stalked and killed later! Good grief- the court needs to use their brain!
