Upstate NY girl, 5, spends day at wrong school

Bus Takes 5-Year-Old To Wrong School

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (AP) -- Officials at an upstate New York school district say a kindergartner spent a day at the wrong school after getting on the wrong bus.

Schenectady city school district officials say the series of mistakes began Wednesday morning when the 5-year-old girl boarded the wrong bus, which was driven by a substitute driver.

At the school, teachers were expecting a new first-grader and asked the girl if she was that student. The girl said she was and spent the day answering to the no-show first-grader's name.

The mistake wasn't discovered until the kindergartner's mother called her school to report that her daughter didn't get off the bus that afternoon. School officials say they located her a short time later.

The district says it's re-examining its bus and new student procedures.

The district is so poor now they have to pay for school IDs because that parent didn't care enough to ask "Are you going to _______ School?" This is crazy and is also an example of one of the many ridiculous parents and ridiculous school systems. The Blind leading the blind.
Here’s an idea, this parent is in desperate need of education regarding how to care for and be a responsible parent to her child – educate her.

Was the mother with the child when she boarded the wrong bus or did the child do this all on her own? Also, why didn't this little sweetie tell anyone her real name and answered to the "other" new students name? Maybe she was too shy? who knows but this was a cock up. Thankfully the little cutie was safe back home, at the end of the day. Her parents need to accept part the responsibility for this however along with the school.

Poor little thing.....spending the entire school day answering to another girl's name. I'm guessing that name was pretty close to her own.

People are so afraid to admit that some people are not too bright. That girl's mom is dense for going along with the flow by putting her kid on the wrong bus. The fact that the daughter was ok with being "the new kid" out of the blue like that just goes to show how unprepared that child is for school. A child on a school bus says, "I see a deer!" Another claims to have seen a cheetah. (True story) The first one corrects the other explaining how this is not where cheetahs live. First child intelligent...second child...happy he can speak. Read to your kids. Converse with them. Get them to read. Find out what they like and what you have in common. Raise your own kids.

Wait a minute, did hear the reporter say that the school board is considering using photo IDs? That is not even required for voters. It must be unconstitutional or something to have to identify yourself to vote, so it must be the same for kindergarten students.(he said, with tongue planted firmly in cheek) Wake up photo IDs are required for everything else, why not to vote. Sorry, I couldn't help jumping up on that soap box.

If you're "shocked" that a parent won't be at the bus stop with their 5 year olds......don't be.........happens every day..........
