TV anchorwoman criticizes Kremlin on Ukraine

Abby Martin

WASHINGTON (AP) - An anchorwoman on a Kremlin-funded TV network is standing by her criticism of Russia's military incursion in Ukraine, saying she would rather risk her job and "go down on the right side of history."

Abby Martin, a Washington-based newswoman for Russia Today, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the network has decided not to fire her for harshly condemning Moscow on the air for sending in troops to take control of much of Crimea, a peninsula in the Black Sea.

During the Monday broadcast of her show, Martin said she was strongly against any state intervention into the affairs of a sovereign nation and pledged to keep "telling the truth" as she sees it if prevents another Cold War.

She's also in Washington. Not Moscow. So the Russians might have a hard time doing anything.

The woman has guts. After she is fired by the Kremlin, she can get a job at FOX News.

I was watching her today on TV talking about her position. She mentioned that TV admin suggested she go to Crimea to see what's going on on the spot and then report. She said she had respectfully declined the offer.

I give her credit although I am surpised, usually RT has a pretty heavy dose of propaganda.

Refusing to spout the party line, eh comrade? This is refreshing after listening to the propaganda laden broadcasts of RT, where the US can do no right and Russia can do no wrong. Democracy is still an ongoing experiment and we are not prefect. But I'll stack our record up against that of the USSR and its failed brand of communism any time. Yes, it me waving the flag.
