The option to work from home is quickly moving from a perk to a common way of working. (Tweet this thought.) But while some companies take a casual approach to telecommuting, others are committed to developing robust work-from-home programs and offering remote jobs.

FlexJobs recently compiled a list of the 100 top companies for remote work. The companies that made the list posted the most such job listings in 2013, and for any job seeker who wants to work from home, they're the ones to target in your job search this year.

Many of the top 100 companies offer jobs that are a great fit for young professionals because the level of experience they require and the types of jobs they offer match people beginning their careers. Here are the seven top companies with remote jobs for young professionals:

1. American Express

American Express ecompasses a variety of financial goods and services, and it employs 63,500 professionals worldwide. Glassdoor gave American Express an Employee Choice Award as one of its 50 Best Places to Work according to the employees themselves. It's also won awards like Ethisphere's Most Ethical Companies and the Human Rights Campaign's Best Places to Work.

If you're a young professional looking to work from home for American Express, you'll find job listings like travel counselor, junior meeting manager and account development manager.

2. SAP

SAP is a German company with U.S. headquarters in Pennsylvania, and it specializes in enterprise software and related services. Remote jobs are key to SAP's worldwide reach, with jobs in the United States, Europe, China, India, Australia and Africa.

The company seeks customer-focused professionals and offers full-time telecommuting jobs in areas like support advising, audience relations and software development.

With one of the most recognizable names in document technology, Xerox has come a long way from its founding in 1906. Specializing in digital printing, workflow solutions and related products and services, the company has 160 locations worldwide.

Xerox's remote job listings include positions like project management, customer service, sales and research.

You may remember Kaplan from your test-prep days in high school and college, but this education company has grown into a global provider of education at all levels. With programs in higher education, K-12, test preparation and professional training, Kaplan offers a wide range of telecommuting job opportunities such as test prep instructor, technical writer, developer and (for college students) campus representative.

If you watch television, you're probably familiar with the Nielsen ratings system, but Nielsen is a global measurement and information company that specializes in forecasting and trends in a variety of industries.

One of the most prevalent remote jobs offered by Nielsen is field service representative, a position responsible for interacting with families involved in the Nielsen TV ratings program.

6. Healthfirst

A New York City-based health plan, Healthfirst partners with local health providers to offer affordable and quality health insurance coverage. A current employee at Healthfirst listed some of the pros of working for Healthfirst in a Glassdoor review: "annual raises, bonus twice a year, excellent management, very flexible and pushes you to do your best, friendly work environment."

Its telecommuting and remote job listings include care management, medical files coordination, quality and service analysis and a variety of nursing positions.

7. American Heart Association

Dedicated to supporting the treatment and prevention of heart disease, the American Heart Association hosts events around the country and has a global presence. The NonProfit Times named the AHA one of the 50 best nonprofits to work for.

If flexible work options are what you're looking for, working from home can be ideal. Try searching for keywords like "telecommute," "home-based" and "remote job" to find companies and jobs that support telecommuting.
