Razzies pick Will and Jaden Smith as worst actors

Will Smith and Jaden Smith
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Will and Jaden Smith have something they can bond over. They were both awarded Razzies for their performances in "After Earth."

Jaden was selected as worst actor for his starring role in the sci-fi flop about a father and son stranded on an untamed earth, while the elder Smith was chosen as worst supporting actor at Saturday's Golden Raspberry Awards, which lampoons Hollywood's awards season on the eve of the Oscars. The duo was also selected as the worst screen combo by online Razzies voters.

Razzies organizer John Wilson noted the pair was "stranded on Planet Nepotism."

"After Earth," which was directed by M. Night Shyamalan, tied with "Movie 43" for the most prizes with three awards. The raunchy comedy anthology featuring the likes of Halle Berry, Richard Gere, Kate Winslet and Naomi Watts earned Razzies for worst picture, screenplay and director. Apparently, it took a village to craft something so loathed. The Razzies noted that "Movie 43" is credited with 13 directors and 19 screenwriters.

Tyler Perry also didn't receive any good tidings from the Razzies . Perry - as feisty alter-ego Madea - was picked as worst actress for "A Madea Christmas," while Kim Kardashian was designated worst supporting actress for her role in the drama "Tyler Perry's Temptation."

Despite being the year's biggest box-office bomb, "The Lone Ranger" lassoed just one prize: worst remake, rip-off or sequel.

Uncharacteristically, Adam Sandler went home empty handed at this year's Razzies. Sandler's "Grown-Ups 2" originally led the hate-fest with eight nominations, including worst picture and actor for Sandler, but the comedy sequel wasn't awarded a single trophy. Sandler previously made Razzie history in 2011 by winning both the worst actor and actress prizes for his brother-sister cross-dressing comedy "Jack & Jill."

The winners of the 34th annual Razzies were announced Saturday night at a conference center a few blocks away from the Dolby Theater, where the 86th annual Academy Awards will be presented Sunday evening.

M. Night needs to get back on track. I just know there is another good movie in him somewhere. He is quite a unique moviemaker but stuff like The Happening was just ain't gonna cut it.

I always enjoyed Will Smith. That being said, Jaden is a kid riding on his fathers coattails - Nothing more. I've seen him on talk shows and he's arrogent and totally full of himself. That behavior wouldn't be acceptable from a talented actor - nevermind a no-talent one.

I think people should remember he is only 15. Anyone who doesn't think most teenagers don't somehow think they know it all has never had kids, or forgot they were one. Give the kid a break until there is a time not to.

Exactly, Dianne. Little bastard wanted to legally be seperated from his parents...at age 14. Oh..of course, Daddy would have to pick up the living expenses for him...being he's the one with the big bucks. Future litt drug user for sure.

Exactly...the little bastard will grow in to a drug user. He already thinks he's some big movie star. An article a while back stated he wanted to legally be seperated from his parents ...at the age of 14. Will stated..when he makes it big on the screen and can earn the big $$$ he's welcome to go. Little creep feels he should have his own place (at 14) but of course Daddy has to pick up the tab.

Personally, I love the Smiths, but the parents need to step in with a little guidance sometimes. It's ok to let your kids express themselves...but not in front of the whole world where their embarrassments are going to come back and haunt them for the rest of their lives. Let's face it. The boy cannot act and the girl cannot sing. Encourage them in other directions.

I suspect that Wills ego, power in hollywood, and love for son clouded his judgement in this project. I don't think we should be to hard on him/them it is the classic family indulgence. Will Smith is a self made hard worker, and has many projects I enjoyed and he should be proud of. This is not the first time hollywood actors have attempted to push their children and failed : for example remember Frank Sinatra's and Lucille Ball's kids foray into acting singing they also flopped.
