Film star Sean Connery urges Scots to leave UK

Sean Connery
LONDON (AP) - Film star Sean Connery is urging fellow Scots to vote for independence when a referendum is held in September.

The longtime independence advocate says in The Sun on Sunday newspaper that the opportunity to separate from the rest of Britain is too good an opportunity to miss.

He says independence would galvanize the film and creative industries, creating new jobs in Scotland.

Connery no longer lives there and said the decision should be made by the people who choose to live and work in Scotland.

He said a vote for independence would bring renewed focus on Scottish culture, heritage and creative excellence.

His view is not shared by rock star David Bowie, who has urged Scottish voters to remain part of the United Kingdom.

I like Scotland and Connery the way they are, idealistic, romantic, and cold.
Scotland is a feudal concept, long gone as a separate country, but beautiful to visit . Few people are tough enought to live there in the Highlands all the year round. Not even Connery.

Love Sean Connery, but he shoudn't try to use his influence, where he won't even live.
Also expatriate.

I don't have a horse in this race. I don't care if Scottland is independent or not. The word. "indpependence", tells me that they are "dependent" upon the UK at this time. If you wonder whqt that means, it means that they are dpeendent upon the UK to provide the many things that a govenment provides, such as; the minting of money, providing pass ports, border and military protection, air traffic controllers, and hundreds of other things that go unnoticed by the general public. The fact that Sean Connery is a really great actor, does not necessarily indicate that he has thought these all the many things that would need to be replaced, if the UK took them out.

A very good argument had been made that if Scotland does separate, it will not be allowed to join the EU. Reason being the sepratist yearnings of regions in Spain, Belgium and Italy.
These nations do not want a precedent set. And will hang together to not allow new nation status.
What will happen to the Nordic Islands, Orkney and Shetland? They lean more to Oslo or London . And may prefer to be attached one of those capitals.

Yes, vote for independence and then seal the border...there is nothing to the South that reflects true Scottish culture, heritage, creative excellence, and I might add, religion...

Yes, of course, Scotland should separate and they have enough financial expertise built into their genes to have a greater economy than England. They should be "free" from England. They never
wanted to be part of England back in 1745 - let them remember those days when their ancestors
gave their lives for Scotland to be free. Mary Stuart
