Gary Melius speaks out about being shot in the head

Gary Melius Speaks Out After Being Shot in the Head
New York police are investigating a mysterious shooting Monday outside Oheka Castle in Long Island. "Good Morning America" reports the castle's owner, 69-year-old Gary Melius, was shot in the head - but survived.

His would-be assassin is still on the loose. Melius said from his hospital bed: "I look forward to coming home, I look forward to coming back to work. It's a reminder to live each day, celebrate life and embrace your family."

Police don't have a motive or a suspect for the attacker. Melius was reportedly sitting in his car with the windows rolled up when up to three shots were fired, one hitting him in the right side of the head.

News 12 Long Island reports at the time of the shooting, Melius was about to have lunch with former U.S. Senator Alfonse D'Amato - a friend and reported poker-playing buddy.

New York Daily News points out Melius is well-connected to the political world.

'Melius, who is as comfortable rubbing elbows with celebrities and former Presidents as he is with throwing elbows in ... Long Island politics, turned Oheka Castle ... into a luxury hotel and events space.'

Melius purchased the castle in 1984 and spent $30 million restoring it back to its former glory. It has even been the site of celebrity weddings, including that of Kevin Jonas of the Jonas Brothers.

Although Melius has told news outlets he isn't aware of any enemies that would be out to kill him, there's speculation over whether his political involvement has anything to with it.

Long Island Press reports the Nassau County Police Department's commissioner, Thomas Dale, stepped down in December after his department made an arrest critics called politically motivated. Melius was said to have encouraged that arrest.

Melius is still healing at the hospital after surgery, but he's reportedly in good spirits and is expected to fully recover.

Well he pissed somebody off . People with lots of money and lots of exposures make lots of enemies. Look for someone he pissed off and you'll find a motive . People just don't go around shooting rounds of bullets into cars for nothing .

There are so many mean, hateful people walking around the streets, that they don't need a reason, they just want to hurt someone and don't care who it is.

many attempts are made on people's life in many large cities everyday. We don't always see them published. What's different this time?
