Obama, Boehner meet for hour at White House

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) have met for about an hour at the White House, their first one-on-one meeting in more than a year.

Spokesmen for Obama and Boehner say the meeting was "constructive" and covered a wide range of issues.

Boehner's spokesman says the issues included manufacturing, trade legislation, flood insurance, immigration, Obama's health care law, Afghanistan, the appropriations process, California drought relief, wildfire suppression and the highway bill.

Boehner's spokesman adds that the leaders agreed there is a lot of work to do this year and that it's important for them to work together when they can find common ground.

The two last met in December 2012, when they failed to reach agreement on tax reform and spending cuts during deficit reduction talks.

The people of this country need to revolt at the ballot box. I get so tired of hearing that they don't want to do this or that because it is an election year. If they were doing what their people want, they would not have to worry about getting reelected, they would be guaranteed reelection. There would be no need for the special interest groups to put one dime into the coffers of the campaigns, because the voters would be happy with the job that was being done and would keep them in office to continue. Seems it does not take a rocket scientist to figure this out.

JOBS have to be the topic. (1) Increase off shore oil drilling. (2) Approve the Canadian pipe line (3) Remove the restrictions on coal (4) Perform a orderly cut back in Government workers based on normal attrition Shoot for 1% across the board budget cuts Use a hiring freeze. ( 5) Shut down education department. There are many more examples of hopw this President could improve the economy quickly.

AOL, do you moderate these comments? What is with these work from home on your computer testimonials that have overrun the conversations? They make it hard to follow a discussion thread.

Two of my least favorite people together in one room. Maybe they'll cancel each other out and some good energy will come from it.

2014 Midterm elections are going to have a very decisive role in the direction that our politicians will take. It is my hope that voters come to the polls in droves and send a clear message about the current direction that this country is taking. I will wager to say that most are unhappy with the way our politicians are doing business.

Cleaning house in the Senate would not hurt my feelings in the least. Likewise, loosing a few RINOs would send a very strong message to the GOP that the Republicans need to find an agenda that works. They also need to get on the same page and stay united in their goals.

Things need to change and fast or this country is headed for a reckoning that none of us will want to face as the National Debt continues to climb and the US dollar is very quickly loosing favor in the European Union and in Asia as well.

The Republicans are a bunch of wackos, racists, haters, obstructionists, void of ideas, with nothing to offer to a country they almost destroyed in four years under Bush. Nothing is worse than lying to the American people and sending 5,000 Americans to their death in Iraq, nothing you hear that, you people on the right keep crying about Benghazi which is nothing compared to what Bush did in Iraq. Bush and Cheney are the same as all those crazy middle east dictators on the news everyday, they should be tried for war crimes just like the rest of the losers. Now go away we are tired of hearing you people on the right speak!

cleaning house in the government means getting rid of both of these behemoth parties as neither one is worth a spit in a spittoon

when will the American people learn that these two parties, whom you have given complete control over your lives and fight among yourselves in the process.

corrupt, egomaniacs who dictate to you and your families, how you must live while they live as kings and queens....and spend your tax dollars on their outrageous self-indulgence

you people are nuts

More jobs for illegals. Who cares about the people that voted for us? Ok, instead of amnesty we will call it work permits.
