'Avatar' actor Sam Worthington arrested in NYC

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say actor Sam Worthington has been arrested in New York City for punching a photographer after the man kicked Worthington's girlfriend in the shin.

The 37-year-old "Avatar" actor was arrested on an assault charge following the incident at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Greenwich Village.

The Australian actor was released on a desk appearance ticket and is due back in court on Feb. 26. Police did not say what caused the scuffle.

The photographer, 37-year-old Sheng Li, was arrested on charges of reckless endangerment, assault and harassment. He's being held pending arraignment.

It wasn't immediately clear if both had lawyers.

Hooray for him! Yes, these photographer's need to respect everyone's privacy. It's too bad they apparently learned no courtesy as a child. We don't need another Princess Diana incident. And for scaring children that is outrageous. Children should be off-limits all together.

Why do they arrest both? Don't the police know the law? Self-defense!

Since this was a paparazzi, I will give him a pass. If it were a fan who asked nicely for an autograph or picture, he should be fried. Celebrities should accommodate respectful fans or turn them down nicely, but paparazzi are leeches.

Good for the NYPD arresting the little pappazzi swine. Let's hope he's being held in "the tank" indefinitely.

So sick of Paparazzi. I don't blame you Sam, and I hope your girlfriend's shin is OK. The Paparazzi should be banned, they give no regard to the privacy and safety of those they are snapping pictures of. They will do anything to get the picture, no matter who gets hurt in the process.

Let's hope the prosecutor dumps this "case" against Sam Worthington pronto, instead of wasting taxpayer dollars. Bad enough the actor will have to pay a lawyer.

Scum photogs are fair game...more famous people should inflict more pain on the obtrusive punks with cameras.....Good for Sam

The man defended his girlfriend.....what's the problem? The only arrest that should have happened was that of the photographer.
